Analysis: Why College Athletes Should Be Paid

College athletes are given a scholarship based on their abilities in a certain sport. Each college athlete has the chance to improve their chance of becoming a better athlete in any sport they play, but they have to put their mind to it and work hard every day to become better. On average, a college athlete will spend between thirty and forty hours a week just trying to get better and become the best athlete that they can be and live up to their potential. Every year a college program will spend a significant amount of money on a scholarship for athletes for a certain sport. College athletes should be paid according to the sport they play. Every college athlete will spend forty hours a week practicing leaving little time for academic commitments . After a lawsuit come out on October 2014, the NCAA now restricts every student athlete that are in season to twenty hours a week and the rest of the time all athletes in season have to spend the remaining time working on their academic commitments and making sure they have the grades to participate in the sport
In all colleges there are three divisions of college sports, division 1, division 2 and division 3. In a division 1 college they have 173,500 student athletes with only three hundred and forty six colleges and universities.( NCAA recruiting facts ). Every year some colleges have student athletes back down or commit to a different school or even just decide that they don’t want to play anymore, when that happens the college should give the scholarship to someone else so they can prove themselves ( NCAA recruiting facts ).
