Review: Why College Athletes Should Be Paid

Should College Athletes be Paid? Imagine what would happen if we would pay the college athletes for performing. It would be a disaster because that is all they would do, they would only play for the money. Most of the athletes wouldn’t play for the fun of the game, or the fame that comes with playing, they would just worry about the paycheck that comes with playing. If anything all of the athletes are paid already with scholarships and the free things they get to use. Not playing for money in college, will most likely make the athletes work even harder to get to professional sports.

How are college athletes already paid? You have probably asked, imagine if you are an athlete in Division 1 sports, after a game you go into the locker room and your ankle starts to bother you. You decide that maybe a ice bath will help the pain go away, so you get in the ice bath and sit in there 10-15 minutes, so you then get out and the pain has not went away. Then you choose that it is time to go and get help from the medical staff that is personally for the team. Never once in this were you charged for the the time you were in the ice bath or getting help from the medical staff.

Then most importantly they most likely won’t need a lot of money if they already have a scholarship. Yes, I have thought about the athletes that may not get scholarships, but finding a Division 1 athlete without a scholarship is slim to none. Therefore say we pay the college athletes, and the coaches have less money to do for the college athletes like get better equipment for practice, and without good equipment, the athletes most likely won’t get to their best potential and then we have less skilled athletes and it is not as fun to watch. With paying the athletes, it will just become a very corrupt
