So what is at the core of the Whole Foods Market? What holds the franchise supermarket together you might ask? Whole Foods has a complex yet very interesting organizational structure. The structure of a company can have a huge effect on what it is capable of. Whole Foods Market contains a four tier hierarchy including global headquarters, regional management, facilities, and stores. This hierarchy creates a top-down system which makes it easier to maintain total control.

Whole Foods Market places great emphasis on dividing the United States into different regions of management with different branches and teams for each region. Competition between teams is a big aspect of working for the company as this stimulates improving the efficiency and effectiveness of managers and employees. Teams are greatly valued at Whole Foods. To help new employees learn about the products and company Whole Foods Market has an instituted mentor program and even has an online portal. Whole Foods Market puts great effort into informing and guiding the employees to meet their full potential. The company seems to be less focused on itself and more on the people who are dedicated to creating its success. The structure of Whole Foods sets a great example for smaller companies who are struggling to achieve the same goals.
