Other than dealing with the elitist society, the story also displays many features of modern literature. The main character’s obsession for material items and desire to gain wealth was another aspect of the story that made it very modernist. At a young age, he thought he was too young to work as a caddy and strived to obtain greater wealth. This was one of the main qualities of characters in the Modernism time.…

The Machine Stop’s published in 1909 by E. M Forster is an amazing prediction of a future where humans live below the surface of the earth in “The Machine.”Connected by something similar to the internet and communicating only by webcam, their every need is met and physical contact has become obsolete. There is a lot in this story that can be compared with our lives now in regards to dependence on technology and the way that it controls our lives, I am going to discuss that in this paper along with how this story and David Strong’s article can be compared. I will try to analyze the time’s that Forster grew up in and the impact they may have had on his view of the future, also the benefits and downfalls of modern technologies and a quick summary of the novella by Forster.…

The quest for efficiency knows no limits. Humans, seeking a more perfect life, strive endlessly to create a society that will run more smoothly tomorrow than it did today. In an efficient world, there is no room for error, no room for humanity. Peak efficiency can only be achieved when emotions and desires are put aside in order to objectively approach each situation. Unfortunately, or perhaps, fortunately, humans are not capable of this sort of blatant objectivism. It follows, then, that humans are not capable of perfect efficiency. To circumvent this, we have created machines. A computer, armed with artificial intelligence, is much better at analysis and reason. In E. M. Forster's short story, “The Machine Stops”, mankind has completely…

In Waiting For Godot, Vladimir and Estragon would be considered as anti heroes instead of being actual heroes of the play. There is very little that is heroic about them. Vladimir seems to be more intelligent and mentally stable than Estragon, and he understands the situation that him and Estragon are in. He finds himself helpless and feeling the need to wait for Godot, who is going to change the condition that they are both in. It shows his helplessness when accepts the proposal that him and Estragon should hang themselves. As for Estragon's character, he seems to be more of a cowardly person who suffers from a nightmare of a man beating him. Vladimir takes care of Estragon and is more of a guardian for him, such as when Estragon had thrown himself into a river and has to be rescued by Vladimir. Comparing these two characters to Oedipus is completely different. Oedipus has an ultimate goal and will do anything to find out what it is. As for Estragon and Vladimir, both of them just wait and do nothing besides wait for Godot.…

Time and workload never seem to get in synch. In fact, often the opposite is true. There’s a old saying “When it rains, it pours”. When we are already busy, even more work hits our in-basket. When we’re least busy, we can’t get the phone to ring and our e-mail inbox is empty. The natural tendency is to work hard and practice good time management during busy time, then coast during the least busy or down times. Never Do This! The key to maximizing productivity is to spend all periods-down and busy-productively.…

The main reason for this essay is because I did not follow out proper orders and was not at the correct place of duty for accountability of my person on two consecutive occasions. Regardless of my reasons for absence, there is no excuse big enough or serious not to make it on time to formation or at minimum give a courtesy call to my chain of command. I want to be an excellent soldier and I want to excel in the military. 1st sergeant would no doubt call this repeated action laziness, irresponsibility, and un-leadership like qualities that of which have neither the right to stake a claim of existence within nor to continue residing in the army. However, as I may or may not have said before I'd like to stay and continue my rigorous journey up the treacherous road of leadership. The first step I need to put into action is making sure I am always accounted for which in turn means I am on time for place of duty if not fifteen or more minutes prior to the specified time. This is a simple task that is easy and painless to follow through on, and it WILL be accomplished!…
