"Whats Your Why?" Story Speech

Introduction:
One of my favorite quotes is, “What’s your why? If yall gonna be great on that field you have to have a why. You gotta have a reason for why you do what you do. Why do you wake up in the morning? Why do you go out and practice? Why do you put on that jersey? What’s your why? By Eric Thomas. I. January 10th , 2009 was a normal Saturday night a. Hanging out with friends, talking, laughing, etc. b. About 30 minutes away in Baltimore a man was playing in a church basketball game c. The man suddenly falls to the ground and no one knows what’s going on. So they call 911 to try to help the man but he is later that night announced dead. That man was my brother. II. The next morning I am at my older sisters’ house and there is a knock at the door so I get up and open it, it’s my Mom and Dad. d. I laugh and ask what are you doing here and playful close the door, but they didn’t laugh with me e. My Dad called everyone into the living room and told us to sit down, immediately I thought one of us did something wrong, so to clear my name I pointed at my little sister and said “I didn’t do it, she did.” And started to laugh, but once again no one laughed with me. III. My Dad then says, “Last night while playing basketball Stephen died.” f. My older sister, who was pregnant at the time and already an emotional wreck, bursts into tears. Then, my little sister starts to cry. g. I just sit there with this blank look on my face staring at the walls, then I mumble, “Stephen who?” h. So by this time my Mom is comforting my sisters and she is also crying, my Dad comes and sits next to me and says, “Stephen your brother” and starts explaining everything that happens. IV. The wake for my brother was on Thursday, January 15th, 2009, which was also my birthday i. I heard people talking about how nice, fun, smart, etc. my brother was j. One of the things I remember most was someone say how he was the only Aerospace Engineer major they knew that had had 3.0 and played football, they then went on to say that he was the hardest worker they have ever seen on and off the field. V. The next day at the funeral k. One of the biggest churches I have ever seen, and I wondered why it was so big l. When I walked inside I realized why it was so big
Conclusion:
That day I realized how liked my brother was and how much he had effected so many people’s lives in only his short 20 year life. That day I promised myself that everything I do from now on I would do in honor of him. Another one of my favorite quotes is, “With death comes new life.” My nephew was born a few months after my brother’s death, and he was born 6 days before my brothers birthday, the first time I held him I looked at him and said he is going to look up to me the same way I looked up to my brother. That is why I do what I do.
