Language has played a big role in making my life successful. As senior year was ending I had a major life changing decision. I was unsure whether to pursue my passion of baseball in California, or to hang up my cleats for the last time on a high note. Although this was not a life or death decision, It was still a decision that was still near and dear to my heart. After going to several people for help and many sleepless nights, I still felt helpless. I finally came to the conclusion after hearing "The Babe" in the movie Sandlot tell Benny Rodriguez, "Everybody gets one chance to do something great. Most people never take the chance, either because they're too scared, or they don't recognize it when it spits on their shoes." that’s when I decide…

Music has always been a part of us ever since the begging of time. It’s been with us threw the happy, great times and also for the not so happy bad times. We can express ourselves with music by telling a story with in the lyrics and even with the beat showing, telling how we are feeling. It can be a cheerful, carefree, joyful beat, to gloomy, mournful, blue beat, but not everyone has the same taste in music. Music it’s self is unbelievably stunning and so breathtaking.…

Dick Clark once said, ¨Music is the soundtrack of your life.¨ Music is one of the most powerful and influential things in my life. Without the melodies and harmonies of music, my life would feel bland and meaningless. I have a very busy schedule and sometimes it is too easy to lose meaning in my everyday tasks, but with music I am able to keep meaning in my life. I use music to get me through the activities of my everyday life. Whether it is cleaning my room, doing homework, or just relaxing, music makes everything better. I think that music can convey feelings and emotions extraordinarily well. When words cannot do the job, music can. Along with that, I think that music accompanies memories very well also. Going back to Dick Clark’s quote, I think I would be able to make a timeline of my life just using song titles, albums, and…

Music has played a significant role throughout my whole life. All throughout middle school and high school I have been a performer, participating in many different musical organizations including orchestra and choir. These personal experiences have broadened my interests in music. In middle school I was in choice voices, which was a special singing group for people who excelled in singing. When I went to high school I stayed in the same program and even became senior section leader of my choir, conducting different songs at our concert and being in charge of different performances. During my childhood I was part of the choir at my church, and performed during the different holiday masses.…

Music influences people in different ways, for me it influenced my life by allowing me to realize that I can express myself through other people’s words. For instance, when I started seventh grade I heard a song called “My Little Girl” by Tim McGraw. At first, when I heard this song I started to cry because I automatically heard my Dad’s voice apologizing for what happened. This song has influenced my life because it was always there for me when I needed a father’s reassurance. Music has always been there for me when no one was or when I needed advice to keep going. Music allows people to put their experiences in a song that makes sense to them. Music comes in different genres but they do the same thing, allow people to express themselves when it is hard for them to do that on their…

I feel that I can contribute to the overall student body of this college by engaging myself with fellow students. Teaching others what I have learned, as well as having an open mind to learn from others, can help us all. I believe that being a mother, wife, and registered nurse has molded me into the unique individual that I am today. My contributions to society help me to view myself and others like me in a different light. I believe that those who have committed themselves to helping others hold the key to nurturing our youth and elders alike. My career as a nurse began fourteen years ago. I started out as a licensed practical nurse. I enjoyed it immensely, but always felt that I could achieve more. Eleven years later, I graduated from an LPN to RN bridge program. I always knew that I wanted to help others; and everyday holds a different reward in itself. People often question how I am able to deal with illness and death so often. They also question if we, as caregivers, ever get depressed. My answer to them is that if I can make one person more comfortable in their last days, then I have made a difference. Of course there many more rewards to nursing. I truly believe that it takes a kind heart and caring person to commit oneself to a lifetime of helping others. I feel that I am truly blessed and honored to be amongst these. So, in summary; I believe that sharing these thoughts and feelings with others can help me to fit in at this…

You ask me why am I unique? The Trials and tribulations I have experienced and the people that were placed in my life is what molded me to be the man I am today. Growing up in Birmingham, AL I witnessed violence, drug addiction, and even death at an early age. Coming from a under performing household that is without a father figure made living comfortably impossible. Every week me and my brothers would see the "cable man", "water man", or the "electric man" come turn off our appliances and we would also see our mother beg them to give her another week to pay. Seeing me my mom fight so hard to give us a good life but all her efforts would just fail got to me; my mom would be kind to everybody, she even sheltered people and fed people even if she had to lose a room or a bed. I…
