What It Means To Become A Registered Nurse

My original understanding of what it meant to be a registered nurse is that nursing is a job that is suitable for women only and unsuitable for men. I thought that nurse is not a professional job as a nurse cleans their patients waste and clean the infected or injured area. I also thought that only nurses who graduate from a degree in nursing can become a nurse and nurses only work in hospital. In my opinion, I think that a nurse job is only taking care of the patients by giving their patients medicines regularly, drawing blood of patients, and giving injections to them. I have found out that female are more likely to involve in nursing workforce compare to men.

My current view of what it means to be a registered nurse is all the nurse applicants including internationally qualified applicants should undertake English language proficiency test before register and work in this profession (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia 2011;). Besides that, I have found out that all registered nurses should undergo criminal history check to provide information to their future employer for further assessment (Australian Federal Police 2014; Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia 2010).
