The major lesson that was taken from this tragic event is that no matter how great or ready your crew or leadership is, bad things can happen at any time and it’s out of anyone’s control. Captain McVay’s actions of taking ownership of the sinking of the ship even though it was out of his control models the values of being a commanding officer. No matter what happens, good or bad, a captain will always be responsible for the safety of their ship and crew. This event also reminded us that complacency can set in and procedural compliance must always be followed even if there is no imminent hazard nearby. As a result of the casualties, the Navy mandated an escort ship for a crew greater than 500 crewmembers, mandatory reporting of the ship if five hours late, and improved lifesaving equipment by converting life rafts into colorful self-released rafts, with added emergency equipment such as parachute flairs. Last but not least, the bravery and sacrifice of the ship’s crew is a reminder of what the men and women in the service have to…

In 1607, the Susan Constant sails to the "New World" from England, carrying British settlers of the Virginia Company. On board are Captain John Smith and the voyage's leader Governor Ratcliffe, who seeks large amounts of gold in the New World to assure a strong position at the British court. Along the way, the Susan Constant is caught in a North Atlantic storm, and Smith saves a young, inexperienced Thomas from drowning. In the Powhatan Tribe in the New World, Pocahontas, daughter of Chief Powhatan, dreads being possibly wed to Kocoum, a brave warrior whom she sees as too "serious" for her spirited personality. Chief Powhatan gives Pocahontas her deceased mother's necklace as a present. Pocahontas, along with her friends, the gluttonous raccoon Meeko and hummingbird Flit, visit Grandmother Willow, a spiritual talking willow tree, and speaks of a possibly prophetic dream involving a spinning arrow, and her confusion regarding what her "path" in life should be. Grandmother Willow then alerts Pocahontas to the arriving Englishmen.…

compartment into another. When the iceberg ripped a hole in the side of the ship, the compartments began to fill with water. As five of the compartments filled with water, enough air was pushed out of the ship to lower the front end (the bow) deep into the sea. Water continued to pour over the top of the compartments that where filled with water into those that were still full of air. 5 compartments were filled. The more the Titanic sank, the more water poured into the air- filled compartments and the heavier the vessel became. Eventually, air was forced out of the hull so that the whole ship became heavier than the water around it and consequently the Titanic sank. This is one of the main reasons why the titanic sank, (oblivious to the fact that it crashed into an iceberg.) Although crashing against the iceberg made a gash in the ship, the speed of the ship was too fast to be traveling in dangerous waters. The ship was traveling at about 21 knots. I am always a fan of a mental pep talk before doing something that might scare me. I have used this many times but it just gets me to start focus on what I am about to do. Next I have seen this many times where peoples’ friends just get into their heads with saying things about how cold it is going to be or that they are going to get sick, or that it is just plain nuts. I look at it this way, I shouldn’t listen to anyone who has not done a plunge before because they really have no idea how it will be or how it will feel. I also think that just staying calm before plunging will help me focus as well. If I just tune everything out and just think about what I am about to be doing. By mentally preparing before the plunge it helps me to focus and not freak out before which happened my first really cold jump, which was this year. It mad my jump very…

Motorcycle valve caps are small component of our bikes that we sometimes forget or ignore. Yes, that small piece, apparently useless, that ends up being lost somewhere in the world. Actually, motorcycle valve caps play a significant role in ensuring the overall success of our ride. Their main purpose is to help keep dust and dirt out of the valve. If particles get jammed in the sealing surfaces, the tubes will have a leak. Accumulated particles will not allow a proper connection with your pump. That is why most motorcycle valve caps are already attached to tubes. But sometimes, replacing those are needed. If the seal of our motorcycle valve ever fails and your tire starts losing air, you should consider on replacing your valve or valve caps.…

At this time, they only saw the tip of the iceberg but were unaware of its massive size underneath. Unfortunately, in an attempt to reverse the ship, the very motion plunged the ship forward which caused the iceberg to dent the side of the hull consequently water sipped into the ship. The ship had received many warnings from other ships about floating ice, however, Titanic continued on at high speed with a schedule to keep. Although, at that time, ships speeding and floating ice was not uncommon. This ship had five watertight compartments, however, these compartments had openings at the top which allowed water to flood in from one to the other. Had only four of the compartments flooded, the ship would have remained afloat, unfortunately, all of the five…
