What Is The Difference Between Greek Heroes And Modern Day Heroes

Unlike Greek heroes, our present-day heroes cannot throw thunderbolts, nor can they kill a half human, half bull monster with their bare hands however, they do share many characteristics with Greek heroes. The characteristics that both modern and Greek heroes possess are a large reason why these Greek heroes are considered heroic by the Greeks. Two common characteristics of both modern and Greek heroes is they are mentally strong and selfless. It is not far-fetched to say because modern day heroes carry many of the same characteristics as Greek Heroes they would be considered heroic by the Greeks. The Greeks would consider Malala Yousafzai a hero because she is selfless and mentally strong like the Greek heroes Odysseus and Psyche.
A characteristic Malala Yousafzai has which would cause her to be considered heroic by the Greeks is selflessness, alike Greek hero Odysseus. Odysseus’ selflessness is
Malala demonstrates she is mentally strong after the Taliban warned her that if she kept going to school she would be killed. Malala responds to these threats by continuing to pursue her goal, which is to receive an education. When she does this Malala demonstrates she is mentally strong because she did not allow the threats to scare her, and she kept pursuing her goal, to go to school. In addition, the Greek hero Psyche is mentally strong as well. An event where Psyche displays he is mentally strong is in the quote “When at last he lay sleeping quietly, she summoned all her courage and lit the lamp (“Love” 127). This quote demonstrates the mental strength of Psyche because it explains when she is preparing her attempt to kill her husband which according to her sisters is a monstrous serpent that eventually will kill Psyche. When Psyche attempts to kill her “monster” husband it displays her mental strength because she does not shy away from the potential danger, and deals with the problem
