What are the causes of increased violence among children in the U.S? According to the National Association for the Education of Young Children every day children in America witness violent acts or are victims themselves of abuse, neglect, or personal assault in their homes or communities. Is no surprise that violence among children In the United States has increased and that the United States is now the most violent country in the industrialized world, leading the world in homicides, rapes and assaults. What are the causes to increased violence among children? Is hard to say but studies have found that a combination of factors leads to an increased risk of violent behavior in children. The main causes of increased violence among children are poor parenting, exposure to violence, the media and genetics. More than one aspect on parenting may contribute to violent behavior in children. Most parents have to work and their children are home by themselves so poor supervision is one of the factors. A divorce is also something that affects children tremendously, along with parental disharmony. In other words when parents fight all the time on the home is more likely their children will be violent towards others. Because of how busy parent are sometimes the children feel rejected and they think the parents don’t care about them. All of these aspects of poor parenting engage the child in a pattern that will affect their later life because they all encourage and reward aggressiveness. Sixty percent of children in America are exposed to violence in their home, at school or in the community every year. (Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention) Studies have proven that this exposure to violence has lasting effects on children and these children are more likely to engage in violence themselves.
