I do not think that this article tries to persuade people to exercise, but rather tell us of the writer 's inner battle with the fact that he has committed to participate in the Comrades marathon and the feelings he has towards training. He writes about the constant discipline that goes with training and the commitment required to be able to complete such a task. The tone in which he writes, bring across…

My mother and I have ran lots of 5ks, 6ks and triathlons over the years. My mom says that it is not like any sport, it distracts you from everything around you can run wherever you want whenever you need it. “ It relaxes you” my mom says. Almost everywhere my mom and I run even on vacation. Both my mom and my dad have ran for more than twelve years and still compete in many races. My mom when she was in college got lots of 1st place trophies and ribbons. She used to be like a cheetah beating people left and right. She was on the track team all through highschool and college beating people. She also, did one marathon and will make sure I will do one too.…
We asked them to select two (2) athletics to play within an organized league. Here the discipline of the game and learning how to cope properly with adult authority added to their overall increase. Never did we force their involvement in any action. We merely supported their efforts with positive comments on their efforts in addition to for their teammates, coaches, and officials. The entire idea is about good health and great enjoyment in sportsmanship!…
Being a team member on my school's cross country team was my most meaningful extracurricular activity. Though I would be a liar if I called myself an amazing runner, running cross country meant so much more to me than just PRs. I learned how to be a team player, how to connect with others different from myself, and how to push through both difficulty and pain. Through my experiences with running, I was able to cultivate my own personal sense of motivation and determination. I learned that nothing can truly be achieved without hard work.…

Limping back to my car after completing a track meet, I curled into a ball, an excruciating pain radiating from my shins- a memory that will stick with me forever. The injury that I was experiencing was shin splints, an injury common in amateur runners. With shin splints comes a very large risk of a stress fracture which can end an entire career of running. Through my dedication to the sport as well as the support from both my teammates and coaches, and despite this injury which still plagues me, I have continued to push myself to become a great runner.…

When I decided to join cross country team my freshman year, I never envisioned myself being a part of what would become known as “the best team in Hammonton history.” Three years ago, I finished the season as one of the very worst on the team, with no expectations being placed on me for the future. Fast forward to one month ago, when I along with my fellow six varsity teammates lead Hammonton to its first Atlantic County Championship in school history. While much of my improvement can be attributed to my physical growth over the years, I would have never reached that level of success if I did not realize how important it is to maximize my effort in everything that I do. My success in Cross Country was not as much caused by my physical development, but more so by the evolution of my mentality.…
Growing up as a child, I was born with a natural drive to compete and to be involved in extracurricular activities. Coming from a family that strives for greatness in the sport and the livestock industry, my natural competitive instincts kicked in during my toddler years. Watching my brother from the stands competing in the sport of wrestling, I desired and longed to be involved in competitive activities. Along with athletics, my family was active in the show ring, competing at the national level in livestock and equestrian shows. While watching Clay, my older brother, compete in these competitive activities, the sparks to a fire burned in my veins.…
I. Sports icons like; Usain Bolt, Michael Jordan, Lolo Jones, Maria Sharapova, Walter Payton, Cristiano Ronaldo and Muhammad Ali all have a common ability that we all possess and that’s the gift of running. [Visual #1/ 30sec.]…
This was a small, ten week study with twelve participants. The children trained three times a week, at the conclusion of the ten week were tested based on a three kilometer run. The results showed that resistance training can enhance the aerobic power of the young athletes (2015). This, along with other studies, provides proof that resistance training can aid in making children faster. With resistance training giving young athletes the opportunity to be both faster and stronger it is only expected that these children would be better at their sports than their other untrained children. This is because that with increased speed and strength the children who are trained are able to “learn proper technique more rapidly and progress at a faster rate than their counterparts” (Pierce et al., 2009). The ability of learn sports skill fasted than other children give the ones who do resistance training a large leg up on the competition. Research shows that children who part take in resistance training are, athletically, better, faster and…
Courage and determination aren’t the only lessons we can learn from successful athletes. Some of the best athletes in history are the ones who can take their achievements in stride. You have to love a sport in order to do it well. Hard-working and motivated people understand that winning isn’t everything. Leading a team in wins or pins, is meaningless when compared to one just giving their best shot at it. Champion distance runner Joan Benoit says,”Winning is neither everything nor the only thing. It is one of many things.”…
What would life be like without competition? Competition is a feeling of being better than the other competitors; such as the coworkers in the workplace. Most people at workplaces compete by working harder and harder just to prove to their employers that they are the best employees. Having a competitive spirit benefits employees and employers, as well as their businesses.…
