What Are My Transitions After High School
One of my transitions after high school was going to a medical institute for school to become a dental assistant. Everything in school was going fine, I had support from my mom who bought me a bus pass every month. My mom also helped me to sign up for that school. I made it to my internship and found out that is not the kind of job I wanted for myself. It helped me to have field experience so I didn’t get stuck in a job I didn’t feel passionate about.

My second transition in life was becoming a mother. Being a new mother with no baby experience at all was very hard and stressful. I had the help of mother in-law thankfully who guided me through and showed me what to do in certain situations regarding my son. What had got me

When I started my junior year of high school I went to the career center for dental assisting. I was expecting to go to enroll into Columbus State Community College, get a major in Dental Hygiene, and then get my Dental Hygienist license in two years. However, after the last two years of being in the Dental Assisting program, like Shelia, I knew I did not want to be what I thought I wanted to be. I am going in a new direction, to major in nursing. One reason is, since I was young I always took extra concern for people’s wellbeing and would like to make a career out of it. I would also like to expand my nursing and become a Pediatrician. The second reason why Shelia’s story is relatable to mine is that I am great with little kids and I think that being a Pediatrician would be a good career for…

When I graduated high school in 2013 I attended a community college in Pennsylvania for a semester. My thought on college in high school were “I don’t really want to continue my education for another four years”. That was until my high school counselor called me to her office seeing that I didn’t apply for schools. She explained that I wouldn’t be able to get a good job or ever own a house without a college degree, so that fear pushed me into continuing my education. My parents were the same way they also told me “most jobs would hire a college graduate over a high school graduate”. That was the final push towards the path of…

Summer 2008 I began college as a freshman looking forward to all the new thing that I was going to be learning and also looking forward to all the new people I was going to be meeting. Overall I was overly excited about the new environment. It made me feel a sense of independence that I had never felt before. I was out there on my own and I was ready to make great things happen. Beginning as a freshman I had so many things that I wanted to accomplish. I wanted to become a dental hygienist, a cosmetologist, a pharmacy technician, a nurse and a wardrobe stylist. I knew that if I worked hard I could accomplish and achieve being anything that I wanted. As semesters rolled onward I began to accomplish things that I wanted: pharmacy technician, accomplished; associates degree, accomplished; cosmetologist, accomplished; certified nursing assistant, accomplished. I achieved so many great things but I still wanted more. I felt that there was more out there for me to achieve and I wanted to have it all. If there was more to be learned, I wanted to learn it and be a part of it. With that being said, I worked and I strived for more great things.…

In the fall of 2014 I developed a severe case of depression and even after time in a primary care facility, I was unable to attend my senior year of high school in 2015. Instead, I moved out on my own where I wandered aimlessly without ever leaving my bed. To admit that my excursion through depression was still holding me back from reaching my potential and that I needed more help was one of the hardest things I have ever done, and also the best decision of my life.…

After high school, I attended community college that was just down the road. My hope was that it would make the jump from high school to college an easier transition. I soon found that one of the main differences was the fact that attendance was not as strictly enforced as it was in high school and, being a teenager, I immediately blew off classes in favor of just hanging out with friends or picking up that extra shift at the restaurant to earn more spending cash. After taking classes here and there over the span of two and half years, I found paying bills to be a more pressing need than finishing school. Moving from one full-time job to the next and constantly putting of returning to school became the norm in my life. Not until I started with my current employer. did I stay with one job more than three years. What began as a temporary position became a steady paycheck. After three years and two promotions, I began to realize that this had the potential to become a career. I was enjoying what I was doing and got the feeling that it was more that just a job and a paycheck. I was making a difference with a Fortune 500 company. Again, I put off returning to school thinking that I didn't have time for it. Of course I'd always wanted to go back, if for no other reason than to finish what I'd started years earlier, but my thought was "Where can I find the time?" Even after the first class I started to have reservations about if this was the right time for me to get back into the ring as a student and if I would be able to dedicate the necessary time to my learning team and assignments. I realized that I need to prove to myself that I can finish what I started, even if it is the second time…

After I graduated from high school May of 2010, I took some time to think about the career path that I wanted to follow. A couple months after I graduated from high school, I applied for a job at the Early Explorers Head Start in Anamoose, ND. I did not get the job that I applied for but that was okay because the next day I got a call from the School District offering me another job. They offered me the job of the assistant substitute teacher in the Early Explorers classroom. I accepted the job offer and started working in September of 2010. I loved the job so much. There was also something special in the job for me, my baby brother was also in that class. My experiences have been very rewarding so far and have inspired me to want to continue along this path and seek further knowledge in the field. It truly does mean so much to me knowing that I have helped those children learn so many new things in life that will help them with their social and cognitive development.…
