The purpose of VR service is to assist persons with disabilities gain their independence through employment. VR service is an organized process that directs a client’s case from application to closure. The VR process consists of different phases, which are organized as status codes. Figure 1 shows the VR process and the status codes that are used to progress clients through the process. Clients are referred (Status 00) to VR services, by their physician, counselor, social worker, case manager, organizations, and employers. VR counselors are also required to outreach within the community to educate persons about the services, which VR provides.
