“I Believe”
I believe that video games are bad for the human brain and body. There are many problems that come from violent video games. “Children who play more violent video games are more likely to have increased aggressive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and decreased prosocial helping, according to a scientific study” (Anderson & Bushman, 2001). In this study, they compared children who play violent video games with children that play none with a cat scan and the violent video game child had more parts of the brain showing aggression. This proves that violent video games can cause aggressive behavior.
Video games are bad and can cause young students grades to decrease. Kids can become addicted to video games. This problem makes them stay up all night and not get enough sleep to perform well in school. Children need at least eight hours of sleep every night. If they do not get enough rest, they can fall asleep in class, have short attention span and cause them to have poor attitude. I believe that these factors will make grades go down and kids will fail.
Obesity is sometimes caused by the excessive play of video games. Humans need at least 30 minutes of exercise every day. When one is sitting for hours on end, their body will gain extra mass and long term problems including obesity. Video games are addicting and will cause grown men and woman to become addicts to the virtual world.
Being an addict to video games often leads to depression. When someone is playing video games all day they have no time for a social life. The human brains needs interaction. With lack of human contact it can cause one to become depressed with their lifestyle. When video game skills are the only thing someone knows they lose the ability to communicate properly and can become isolated from the

One out of the many people that disagrees with this argument is Melissa Henson from the Parent Television Council. From Henson’s point of view, she believes that video games make teenagers more violent than they are already are. As she quoted, “Prolonged exposure to violent images, such as violent video games, can result from in more aggressive behavior.” What she is saying is that violent video games should be banned then rather being played by teens since they have way too much violent and gory images which make them violent…

Although on the other hand some people already know some of the positive aspects of video games they still believe that the negative will overcome the positive ones. Some people believe that the connection between violent games, and real violence is also fairly intuitive. In playing the games kids are likely to become desensitized to gory images;which could make them less disturbing, and perhaps easier to deal with in real life. While video games aren't about violence their capacity to teach can be a good thing.…

I don't think video games can lead to violent actions. Most of the kids in the USA have played M games and only a small portion have taken action from it. Video games are basically known as a staple among American teenagers. Many teenage boys and even some girls spend hours of their day staring at the TV screen and rapidly pushing buttons on a controller. Many of the top selling games in America strongly involve violence in their gameplay. These types of games raise many questions about how they affect the people playing the games. Are there negative consequences or are these claims just made up? There is research to back up both claims but the negative effects of violent video games seem to overpower the positives of recreational violent video game play. Manufacturers should enforce their own policy towards people who play their games in a more efficient way. Video games have multiple severe problems associated with the violence that is so heavily incorporated into them. Video games can give a false sense of reality and allow gamers to become so immersed into their game play that lines between real life situations and game play situations begin to blend together. Playing video games can also become an addictive distraction. Many avid gamers can spend hours at a time glued to their TVs playing on their Xboxes, PS3s, and other gaming consoles. This time spent playing games can take away from other activities. Important things like schoolwork and grades can be affected by spending all one’s time playing games instead of focusing on more important things. It can cause people that play the games to go to sleep super late in the night. The students then have to wake up early and go to school tired and will not be able to focus and stay awake to learn the material being taught. Video games also spur a sedimentary lifestyle. Obviously, not getting enough daily exercise leads to weight gain and other health issues. Violent video games also cause behavioral and social problems. These games desensitize people towards killing and steer them in the direction that killing is…

Video games are widely used as a source of entertainment. Video games allow a person to physically interact with a television or a computer. Although there are casual players who enjoy a game for a brief period of time, there are also people who are overly obsessed. Obsessed players continuously play with no time limits, while a typical player can control the amount of time they play. This is a video game addiction. Video games create more of an addiction than reading a book as they are difficult to quit playing and people tend to have an urge to pick the controller or keyboard back up and continue to play.…

One side of the argument views videogames as a good thing. They think that videogames do not affect kids in any way and that some are good for kids. Talking about two boys that have ADD, “video games, as prescribed by their psychologist, have helped them learn to focus” (Mike Snider, 2005 p.1). Video games are helping train kids to focus, and it is doing it in a fun way. Kids learn better when they are interested in what they are doing and video games make learning fun and interactive. When playing a video game the fun parts are remembered by the kids and if the fun parts are educational, they will learn it. Other studies have shown that video game violence does not make kids more violent like people say, but at the most it just desensitizes them to violence. This is only true if they play violent video games, but a study showed that “the three most popular types of games are nonviolent. Instead, they involve racing, puzzles and sports” (Sieberg, Daniel 2008 p.1). Some kids are playing violent video games, but the majority of kids are playing games that may actually help them. Puzzle…

As people play violent video games, it influences bad behavior in the player because when you play these games, you control the person who causes the crimes, shoot and kill your enemy, whether it is a criminal or policeman depending on the game you are playing. Since you are playing the game, you feel more connected with your character in the game and it may affect you in the real world. This is proved according to the article Computer Games Can Rot Your Brain. According to it, “researchers have shown that playing or watching violent video games has led to alcohol consumption, destruction of property and other bad behavior. Video games can also lead to stealing of items, mainly vehicles.” Although the article says that, Akemi, a long term gamer now 22 years old, says otherwise. He says “I have been playing games since I was at least 7, I have no criminal record. I have good grades and have often been caught playing well into the night (that is, 4 hours or more).” Even though Akemi has no criminal record, Brad Bushman, a scientist that has been studying the effects of violent games on people says “aggressive behavior may appear not as criminal activity or physical violence but in more subtle ways in ways people react to or interact with…

Are video games bad for kids? Back in time in mid 90’s the best source of entertainment for kids was the television that have a great variety of cartoons for the kids to have good entertainment and learn good things. But now they have video games that right now are the top selling industry in the world according to Barbara Ortutay of MSNBC online “the selling of video games on July of this year went to $1.19 billion with a 17 percent more than last year. But the only concern for the society is that kids are getting to much access to violent games and that makes the video games bad for them. As said by David Walsh, Ph.D.National Institute on Media and the Family he said in this report that “Children are more likely to imitate the actions of a character with whom they identify. In violent video games the player is often required to take the point of view of the shooter or perpetrator. Video games by their very nature require active participation rather than passive observation. Repetition increases learning. Video games involve a great deal of repetition. If the games are violent, then the effect is a behavioral rehearsal for violent activity.” He also said that “Exposure to violent games increases physiological arousal, increases aggressive thoughts, increases aggressive emotions and increases aggressive actions.” Video games should not be at the reach of any kid because more all less they all involve violence like for example Mario games that all of them involve killing enemies for success, or crash bandicoot that have the same type of game experience as Mario. Naturally there are always people that do not think the same way like ABC news.com that make a report of social critic Steven Johnson, author of the controversial new book, "Everything Bad Is Good for You."he argues that video games -- violent or not -- are making children smarter. "You have to manage multiple objectives at the same time," he said. "You have to manage all these different resources, and you…

When young men who don’t normally play a lot of video games are exposed to violent video games, changes occur in the way their brains function, new research shows. Using functional magnetic resonance imaging, the scientists conducted that document altered brain response time after playing these video games. A lot of these changes had affected them in the long term also. It is proven that video games do have an affect on your brain, but it is still not proven whether the affect is positive or negative. Video games may also cause long term damage, but in my opinion are worth it because they are a great experience to play.…
