Learning styles of an individual is a preferable method of the absorption of knowledge. Each individual’s approach to the learning style is different. To establish your education effectively and successfully, identifying your own learning style is beneficial. “The learning style view has acquired great influence with in the education field, and is frequently encountered at levels ranging from kindergarten to graduate school” (Pashler, McDaniel, Rohrer, & Bjork, 2008, page. 105). Students use different types of learning style models for their attainment. The Felder-Silverman learning model, Peter Honey and Alan Mumford’s model, David Kolb’s model, Anthony Gregorc’s model and Neil Fleming’s VAK/VARK model are just a few examples of them. The most frequently used and popular learning style model is Neil Fleming’s VARK model. To identify student’s preferable learning style he uses a tool called a “VARK questionnaire”. After completing the questionnaire he/she will decide what type of leaning style is ideal for them. And they will use this learning style to the best of their ability to fulfill their academic goals. The purpose of this paper is to explain the author’s preferable learning style and strategies. AS well as compare the preferred learning strategies to the identified strategies and evaluate any changes that are necessary to make in the study habits.
Synopsis of My Learning Style
Each individual has their own learning style and it is unique for them. Out of four learning styles (Visual, Aural, Reading/Writing, Kinesthetic) visual, read/write are the author’s preferred way of learning. One who learn best by the way of seeing is a visual leaner and it is one of the common style. They understand well when the information is diagram, pictures, charts, graphs, maps etc. Reading/writing leaner study better taking notes and reading or copying the notes. This way information stick into their brain. Textbooks and lecture notes are some of my best friends when it comes to studying. When the author take notes the act of writing helps me to keep the ideas engraved into the author’s mind.
My Preferred Learning Strategies
Sitting at the front of a classroom, listening to the lecture and taking notes is the author’s learning strategy. Also visualizing the diagrams, maps, presentations that were completed during the course of the class. I enjoy reading and studying when The author am siting a room without any distractions, because it helps me focus. The author also like to read out loud because, the author find that it is easier to stick in the author’s head when the author constantly repeat phrases. When writing down the notes I find it easier to understand the concept that were taught and the more I understand the topic the more chances I have to ace the assessment head on that topic. I enjoy rewriting notes and reading over and over same subject that helps me the vital content paste in to the author’s head. Some other strategies I like is making diagrams, flow chart, using maps, use different color markers to highlight the notes and textbooks, and writing list of things to do on the board. This way I can visualize things such as concepts or even just goals to accomplish and have a better understanding. “When a white board is used to draw a diagram with meaningful symbols for the relationship between different things that will be helpful for those with visual preference” (Fleming, 2011).
Comparison of Preferred Learning Style with Identified Learning Style
When associating the preferred learn style with the identified learning styles, one notices the minimal difference between the two. Although, there are additional strategies that are evident in the identified strategies. Based on the VARK questionnaire, the preferred strategies fall under the categories of reading and writing, aural as well as visual. But, according to the VARK questionnaire, the author is of a multimodal preference. Of which includes all four parts of the VARK set.
“Multimodal preferences dominate the database for all populations and it is clearly the most used set of preferences when making decisions about learning. Usually one-third of respondents are in the four part VARK set and another large group are in the three and two-part modalities” (Fleming, para. 2).
The multimodal preference refers to a preference that of using multiple strategies to accomplish a task at a hundred and ten percent. Reading and writing is among my preferred strategies of learning. This method is heavily weighted on the aspect of repeated transcribing to have concepts memorized as well as frequent reading that can help keep things milling in the back of the mind. This method is one of the many that I use. Another identified strategy is aural, this allows the person studying to speak aloud either to themselves or another aural learner. This also open up methods such as “attending lectures, class discussions and recall[ing] information presented in stories” (Lauren, para. 3). As discussed above I only attend lecture in hopes of taking notes so, it is apparent that the reading/writing strategy is definitely stronger above others. The third strategy is visual, this allows one to absorb knowledge through the use of diagrams, charts and color coded notes of some kind. As recalled above all of these methods are used by the author but h visual strategy ranks second.
Evaluate Changes Necessary in Study Habits
Based on the comparison recalled above, there is not much change that is needed to be applied to my study habits. But, if there was anything I could change, I would pay more attention to the visual methods. For example, I would utilize diagrams and charts to understand the concepts necessary for assessment. Although I am referred to as multimodal, I do not use very many kinesthetic abilities. So, I plan on utilizing methods such as, simulations, videos, or labs, in my approaches of studying.
Conclusion
Ultimately, in order to maximize one’s educational purpose he must use the VARK methods. It is an excellent tool to understand the best way to maximize the potential of gaining knowledge. Each individual is capable of finding his own method of studying. The learning styles help a person adapt not only to their educational career but in life itself. This method can be used to figure out situations of which knowledge is needed to be acquired.

    How an individual understand information and use them to solve complex problems are mainly influenced by his or her learning style. Basically, when you can learn about how you learn, you can study and absorb information much more effectively. In 1987, Neil Fleming who has dedicated his life to explore teaching and learning, developed a popular model called VARK (Visual, Aural, Read/write and Kinesthetic) to show that there are many ways an individual can learn effectively. “VARK is a questionnaire that provides users with a profile of their learning preferences.     When one thinks back to their childhood, they may remember the career they wanted to pursue but at the time didn’t know how they would achieve their lifelong goal.     During the VARK questionnaire that I took I scored an 11 on visual, aural, and read/write. The topic that I scored highest on was Kinesthetic and I scored a 12 on it.
