Us Airways
The company I chose was US Airways Group mostly because they were listed as a least admired company for every attribute listed including Product Quality. They are in the airline industry and are headquartered in Tempe, AZ. US Airways supplies air travel both domestically and internationally to its customers. They have been in business since 1939 when they started out as All-American Airways providing air-mail delivery in Western Pennsylvania and the Ohio Valley. Over the years, through buy outs and mergers with such companies as Lake Central Airlines, Mohawk Airlines and Piedmont Airlines, as well as an alliance with British Airways they have transformed into US Airways, becoming the fifth largest airline. US Airways domestic environment is the United States. In the US the airline industry is governed by a few different agencies such as Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), U.S. Department of Justice (USDOJ) and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) with a variety of regulations. Areas that are covered include security, aircraft integrity, traffic control, mergers scrutiny, and business practices. The TSA oversees and protects the Nation 's transportation systems to ensure freedom of movement for people and commerce with approximately 50,000 security officers, inspectors, directors, air marshals and managers. Regulations cover carry on items, baggage, background checks on passengers and physical screenings of passengers and cargo. The FAA oversees the construction, sale, maintenance and resale of commercial aircraft. They ensure airline companies are following through with safety and maintenance requirements with such measures as flight and maintenance logs for each aircraft as well as regular inspections. The FAA manages air traffic around airports and tracks the movement of aircrafts both internationally and domestically. They are also the main player when investigating commercial

Domestic Airlines that call the United States home such as Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, and United Airlines all began with humble beginnings in the 1920s and have grown to become leaders in the commercial aviation industry today withstanding…

    Airline Regulations

*The airline industry operates like the veins of the United States by pumping precious cargo throughout the country. Most *people don’t realize how different the airlines were a few decades ago. The entire industry was regulated by the government. Regulation is usually considered a more socialistic liberal idea that is opposed by conservative capitalists. Although I personally believe in a government with a small limited *role* in our daily lives, I have come to the conclusion that the airline industry is a rare exception that needs to return to regulation which would benefit the airlines and the consumers in numerous ways.…

Each day hundreds of flights depart from other countries en route to and from the United States, so security is important along with working with foreign countries to secure all transportation of airlines. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) protects its passengers by inspecting air carrier operations to the U.S, assessing the security of airports overseas, and addresses many compliances and reviews of airport security. One of the main goals of every airport and airline is to make sure the passengers experience is safe, easy, and problem free. Airports take a lot of behind the scenes work to handle the thousands of people who use the airport each day as well as their luggage. While these committees do get their power through the political process and legislation passed by congress, they operate and act with minimal ties to the national government. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is another one of these agencies. The FAA is an agency of the United States Department of Transportation with authority to regulate and oversee all aspects of civil aviation in the U.S. The FAA’s major roles include regulating U.S. commercial space transportation, regulating air navigation facilities' geometry and Flight inspection standards, encouraging and developing civil aeronautics, including new aviation technology, issuing, suspending, or revoking pilot certificates, regulating civil aviation to promote safety, especially through local offices called Flight Standards District Offices, developing and operating a system of air traffic control and navigation for both civil and military aircraft, researching and developing the National Airspace System and civil aeronautics, and developing and carrying out programs to control aircraft noise and other environmental effects of civil aviation. These regulatory commissions are an important part in overseeing our government’s…

The government has regulations on national security, industry behavior, aircraft integrity, traffic control, etc. (Lutzenberger, 2013). While most of the regulations are regarding safety, some are also regarding protection of competition. National security is first and foremost. They have the right to enforce background checks of ticket buyers, search luggage, use X-ray and chemical detection on passengers and their belongings, and have air marshals on flights for law enforcement. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is also involved with regulations. Planes are tracked with FAA logs. Maintenance service and rebuilds are required after so many hours of use. The FAA carries out regular inspections and reviews to ensure the airline is reliable with the safety and maintenance requirements. All airlines fall under regulation of U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the FBI. They are involved with matters on business violations and criminal business activity. Both agencies can start investigations if needed (Lutzenberger,…
