Unit 1 Lab 1
Step 1: Read the Grandfield College scenario on p. 18 of the textbook.
(COMPLETED)
Step 2: Identify the major topics for this database.
Track the software that faculty and staff use on their computers.
Find out what software does the school own.
Find out what versions of software does the school own. Find out what is the license agreement for the software versions that Grandfield College owns.
Make sure that out of the several different licensing schemas that Grandfield College uses the least restrictive licensing schema which is a “site” license which allows an institution to have a copy of the software on any machine on the business property.
In addition to finding out what software does the school own, what versions of software does the school own, the institution needs to know which software is installed on which machine, where is that machine, and which users have access to those machines.
Step 3: Write a draft statement of work that includes the scope, objectives, and a preliminary timeline. You will need to turn in a Word document to the instructor by the end of class.
Scope:
This project will develop and deliver a new way of knowing the status of software owned by Grandfield College for machines used by faculty and staff. The database that will be created will track the location of the software that Grandfield College owns. The new database will display a number of software which the school owns, where they are located, who uses the software, and what are the versions of the software owned by the school. Also, despite the version or the software, all versions and software will have (need to have) a “site” license. This database will be developed to enable additional products to be added to it over a period of time and be easy to maintain.
Objective:
• Track the software that faculty and staff use on their computers.
• Find out what software does the school own.
• Find out what versions of software does the school own.
• Find out what is the license

It provides education for about 10,000 students and consists of fourteen elementary schools, two middle schools, and two high schools. In 1976, the school system purchased and implemented the DEC PDP 11/34 computer that helped to develop the student management applications, financial applications, and other student management applications. Today, the JCSS owns four Dell servers running on UNIX and everything is connected via a high-speed TCP/IP network. All the applications were developed by David Meyer, a director of data processing, and his two programmers. Once the current JCSS superintended of school retired, Dr. Harvey Greene was hired. Dr. Greene wanted to replace the existing build in-house software with a purchased system. Meyer, who didn`t agree with this decision leaves the JCSS and being replaced by Carol Andrews, the new Director for Data Processing (Brown, Dehayes, Hoffer, Martin, & Perkins, 2012).…
