Tower of Pisa
When most people try to build a tower it usually falls over. Have you ever imagined a tower that leans completely on its own. Yes without falling over. I am talking about the Leaning Tower of Pisa, located in Pisa, Italy. The Leaning Tower of Pisa is an amazing landmark because of its beautiful construction, interesting history, the monuments and the location of it. You may also walk the two hundred and ninety seven steps in the tower to the top.The construction of the tower is absolutely beautiful. The construction of the Tower of Pisa took over one hundred years to complete starting in 1173 and ending 1372 due to the multiple wars and the tower leaning soon after the second floor of construction began because of the soft settling of the ground. There are two hundred and ninety seven steps inside the tower if you want to climb the tower to the top. The tower weighs about 14,500 tons, 8 stories tall and is constructed of white marble. It also has seven bells in it which are all on the top floor of the tower. Each bell represents one note of the musical major scale. The largest bell weighs more than 3,600 kg.The tower has a very interesting history. In 1950 officials of the tower stopped ringing all of the bells because they thought that the vibrations from the tower caused the tower to tilt more into the ground. In 1990 the Italian government assigned an international committee to develop a plan to protect and preserve the Tower. The tower was shifting at least 1.2 mm per year so seven hundred ton ingots were applied as counterweights. Seventy tons of Earth was also removed from around the tower which caused it to right itself by nineteen inches.The Location of the Tower of Pisa is very beautiful. It is located in the Piazza dei Miracoli (Which is Italian for the Square of Miracles) along with three other monuments. The first monument located there is the Cathedral of Pisa, which dates back to the year 1064. It has Roman, Byzamine, and Moorish architectural styles

    The national Cathedral is a Gothic sculptured building located in Washington D.C. There were several architect that help complete this masterpiece. Frederick Bodley started the structured in 1893 as the head architect. Henry Vaughan was appointed the head supervisor in 1907. After Bodley and Vaughan passed away, Philip Hubert Frohman an American finished the National Cathedral in 1990. It took 83 years to finish the project. The National Cathedral consist of long, narrow rectangular mass formed by an eight bay nave with wide side aisles and a five bay chancel, intersected by a six bay transept. In total, the cathedral is 115m (375 ft) above sea level. Uniquely, the tower has two full sets of bells. A 53-bell carillon and a 10-bell peal for change ringing.
