A. Electrostatic Discharge(ESD)
1. Antistatic Wrist Strap-An antistatic wrist strap, ESD wrist strap, or ground bracelet is an antistatic device used to safely ground a person working on very sensitive electronic equipment, to prevent the buildup ofstatic electricity on their body, which can result in electrostatic discharge (ESD). It is used in the electronics industry by workers working on electronic devices which can be damaged by ESD, and also sometimes by people working around explosives, to prevent electric sparks which could set off an explosion.

2.Antistatic Mat-An antistatic floor mat or ground mat is one of a number of antistatic devices designed to help eliminate static electricity. It does this by having a controlled low resistance: a metal mat would keep parts grounded but would short out exposed parts; an insulating mat would provide no ground reference and so would not provide grounding.

3. Antistatic Bag- An antistatic bag is a bag used for shipping (usually electronic) components, which are prone to damage caused by electrostatic discharge. These bags are usually plastic polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and have a distinctive color (silvery for metallised film, pink or black forpolyethylene). The polyethylene variant may also take the form of foam or bubble wrap, either as sheets or bags. Because of the need for protection against mechanical damage as well as electrostatic damage, layers of protection are often used; because of this, a protected device can be packaged inside a metalized PET film bag, which is packed inside a pink polyethylene bubble-wrap bag, which is finally packed inside a rigid black polyethylene box lined with pink poly foam.

B. Hand Tools
1. Flat head screwdriver- a screwdriver designed to turn slotted screws

2. Flashlight- A flashlight (torch in British English) is a hand-held portable electric-powered light source. Usually the light source is a small incandescent light

For my response, I chose the article “Woman: The Tool Maker”, written by Steven A. Brandt and Kathryn Weedman. The article is about an ethnic group in Ethiopia called the Konso- but more specifically it is about an elderly woman named Sokate. The article focuses on Sokate, an energetic 70 year-old Konso woman who is a hide worker, which is what most people consider to be a “man’s job”. As stated, Sokate is part of an Ethiopian ethnic group called the Konso. The Konso group grow several crops on their land, and raise livestock that provide the skins for the hide workers (Brandt).…

1.) Why might Paragon Tool want to pursue acquisition of MonitorRobotics? What are the associated risks? Paragon Tool would want to pursue the acquisition of MonitorRobotics because it would give them the ability to troubleshoot their own products out in the field. If Paragon Tool had a tool go down that a consumer had purchased 5 years back then MonitorRobotics would offer the ability to go out and fix and maintain the machine. The acquisition would give Paragon Tool the services they need to maintain their own tools in house and it would give them the departments necessary to keep up with the competition that already have the technology and services available to their customers. A major risk involved would be the fact that Paragon Tool is not making substantial amounts of revenue yet and is not being recognized by Wall street as a major player in the tool business. Another risk is the fact that all of the competition out there already has the software and departments in place to handle maintaining and fixing machines that are already out there. To grow as a company and to build a bottom line the Paragon Tool company needs to make a decision on acquiring the MonitorRobotics company to handle their in field trouble shooting or not. Even though the competition already has the departments at their disposal when consumers go to buy the competitions products the prices are higher given the fact that they already have the trouble shooting departments in place. If Paragon Tool did not acquire the MonitorRobotics then the prices for the products would be lower and more competitive.…

So, it’s about 1700 and my flight has just landed and everything went pretty well. We are closing up the bird and getting ready to go home. The helicopter is all tied up and wiped down and everything is start to look good. Then some last minute maintenance comes up and the VELOs need to be tightened an blade pins need to be safety wired. Shortly thereafter, about 2 hours because I’m a retard and safety wired the VELOs instead of tightening them, but that’s another story. We finish the job I come in to sign off the MAFs and BAM! I set my cranial down on the floor or desk I don’t recall and I didn’t see it again until the next morning about 70ft above the hangar floor. If someone gets into people’s house or wants to robbery people in some places with no one appear, which would people rather have, a handgun or telephone? If policeman cannot get there in time to save people’s life or no one can give people assistance, what would people rather do? Should they ask to god for help or willing to be a victim? It is very ridicules. Obviously, the best choice for people protect themselves is taking a handgun, because the first line of defense is people. However, nowadays, some people strongly opposed that intensive and blind use of handguns may generate one of the most adverse effects on our harmonious society-violent incidents, and also account for the increasingly higher rate of various crimes. According to the article “Another Mother’s Child: A Letter to a Murdered Son”, Norma Molen states that a university student called Anfreas Drexler killed two other students with his handgun in a dormitory, and finally died by shooting himself. This event reflects that a handgun is a kind of fatal weapon for people. Therefore, these people who disagree with having a handgun suggest their government to ban the right to use handguns. Besides, frightened by many incidents of violence and terrorist attacks, people from different countries in the world are growing concerned with their everyday safety. Hence, having an absolutely deterrent weapon, people can easily ward off some dangerous situations such as robbery incidents and intimidation. Moreover, in the United States, most Americans think that everyone who means a person lived in the world and has no mental and psychological problems can arm a legal handgun for protecting him or herself. The article “Gun in American Households” mentions, “Gun advocates regard firearms as an important crime deterrent and the source of protection” (2). In my opinion, everyone should own a handgun for three reasons: a handgun is a form of protection, a tool of advanced technology, and a symbol of…

Tool control affects safety. Leaving a tool in an aircraft, engine or a piece of support equipment is not just an inconvenience, it is a safety risk. Realizing this, in our aircraft maintenance department superiors enforce some sort of tool control procedures. They realize that establishing and enforcing a tool control program can provide numerous benefits, the foremost of which is safety. The effect of Foreign Object Debris (FOD) on maintenance costs can be significant. For example, the cost to repair a FOD-damaged engine can easily exceed $1 million. FOD can also incur extensive indirect costs, including: Flight delays and cancellations, Schedule disruptions caused by the need to reposition airplanes and crews work for flight management and staff, it could prevent the Marine Corps from conducting its operations; ruining the careers of your fellow Marine who was the Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI); as well as potential liability because of injury.…

Drilling holes is something most of us have done, whether as part of a hobby, or for our jobs. One of the basic tools for the homeowner, the handyman, or a contractor is an electric drill. While hand-held power drills are some of the most used tools in the box, they are not necessarily the most accurate. When you need an exact hole drilled at a precise angle, or maybe a hundred of these holes, then the tool you want is a Drill Press.…
