Student Observation Having no clue where the younger generations go to hang out these days, I thought about where I used to go with all my friends after school. The mall, to my surprise, the mall was packed. It is nice to know that some things stay the same over the years. While setting at one of the hundred benches at Geneses Valley Mall it was not hard to notice the many different styles that our younger generation has. I thought that setting in front of the hot topic store in the mall would be a good place to start. I sat there for a good ten min just people watching when I seen this young man walk in the store with one of the biggest Mohawks I think I have ever seen. I am not sure what made me look twice, the size or the fact that it was blue and green. One of his ears where pierced at the hole looked to be the size of a quarter. As I sat there I see many different variation of the grunge style and a few people that could give a 1980 rock band a run for their money. After setting there for a while I decided to move to another spot in the mall. I found myself in the food court and thought this would be a great place to people watch and not get funny looks. As I stood in line to get some food I noticed a group of young men a few people ahead of me. It was hard not to notice that their pants were almost down to their knees and their shits were overly large. One of the young men had his underwear showing and did not seem to mind that everyone could see. In my opinion these young man gave a whole new meaning to the phrase “talking like a sailor”. If my kids were with me I would have walk out of line and gone somewhere else to eat. After I was done eating I thought I would walk around for a little bit. I ended up walking behind two young women and noticed a skill that I didn’t have and still don’t have, walk, talk, and text. Talk about multitasking, if I were to try this I would be running in to everything and everyone. These girls

I was in a Starbucks one morning and in front of me was a woman on her cell phone. She was laughing and caring on a conversation in Spanish. She was not paying any attention to what was going on around her. A woman asked if she was in line and then the woman having the conversation said yes and moved up to the counter. She continued her conversation on her phone while the person on the other side of the counter waited for her to order. Finally, the person behind the counter asked what he could get her. She ordered a coffee, she realized that she then had to pay for the coffee and started to fumble through her purse. Continuing with her conversation, she moved on to the side of the counter.…

This can best be seen through the influences of Michael Jackson and Madonna which were revolutionary, yet reminiscent of the 50’s. During the 50’s, a Lieberman-owned company, Algy Trimmings Co., utilized mylar and brought about a short-lived resurgence in sequins. Michael Jackson revived the sequin once again during his performance of “Billie Jean” in 1983. During this performance, Michael Jackson featured both his famous single gloved hand style and the first appearance of the moonwalk making this one of his most memorable performances in history. Later that year he again revived a famous 50’s icon: the red leather jacket worn by James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause. While Michael Jackson maybe one of the most famous pop culture icon, he wasn’t the only one borrowing styles from the 50’s. In her music video for “Material Girl” Madonna brought back the Marilyn Monroe look from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. This chic look consisted of a strapless, pink evening gown with matching long gloves, adorned with a lavish diamond necklace and earrings similar to Monroe. People obsessed over these new fashion trends and focused on their fashion as an escape from facing the serious issues; however, people can’t avoid their fears…

Many aspects of living are changing and conforming to the things the youth of today are doing and revolutionizing our culture. (Bennet, 2007) states “Youth is so undefinable because of how rapidly it is changing. As soon as a definition of youth comes out, it is already contradicted by the new youth that is replacing the old”. We all see it adults everywhere panic about how fast things are changing compared to years ago when they were growing up they are afraid they will never be able to keep up with new trends. They see how easily influenced our society is to anything “new and exciting” the youth do. Older generations tend to look upon their own youth and those youth cultures of the past as perhaps more innocent and productive than they may have been realistically.…

    1. Factors that can affect national culture in Hollywood films can be cross culture risk, cultural metaphor, and Idioms. Some movies can come off as offensive to other countries by how they are portrayed. As Americans we may think one saying or gesture may be fine but other cultures can find it offensive. Ethnocentric orientation is when people use their own culture as the standard for judging other cultures. Many times people can think their culture, race, or religion is superior to others. Idioms are expressions whose symbolic meaning is different from its literal meaning. Idioms can affect how one person or culture interprets it to mean another thing and could be seen as rude or insulting or even funny. Cultural metaphors that can also be seen in Hollywood movies can refer to a distinctive tradition or institution strongly associated with a particular society. Some examples of cultural metaphors are Swedish Stuag is a metaphor for love of nature and desire for individualism through self-development. All of these examples are portrayed in Hollywood movies and is left to the audience to make their own judgment on that culture.…

Unmanned drones are a generational step into military history; however the question whether the uses of these devices are making countries such as the U.S into a ‘Predator nation’ needs to be discussed. To determine this attribute the defining of a ‘Predator nation’ and discussion of the different aspects of the term becomes a key element of the discussion. The research into the American military system is important to see whether the U.S has become paranoid and is now overspending. Observing the countries that have been infiltrated by unmanned drones is essential in piecing together the nature of the UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle). “It’s like living under a bomb that could go off at any time, and it’s the Americans doing it,”. The final aspect intention is why the American people and leaders feel that these Unmanned drones are really necessary and whether the drones are doing more harm than good. “This is a tough call. Drone warfare has done a lot of good for the U.S., and could cause Americans a lot of harm.”. These three viewpoints will draw in the conclusion whether the United Sates is in fact a predator nation.…
