Heading out west was very popular back in the 1800s, as well as a huge step for the american people. The Louisiana Purchase almost doubled the size of the United States, which provided so much land to explore. So when it comes to the motivation, there are many varying reasons. Reasons varied due to differences in the type of person, or what that person’s occupation was. For instance, someone who was a farmer differentiated from a person that was a gold miner. Then there are people wanted to start anew, and leave everything behind. Even the government promoted buying land and moving out West at one point in time. The motivation for people heading out west was to search for gold, to farm, and the belief in Manifest Destiny.…
There are many reasons why a student would chose to go to Southwest. I chose Southwest because they make it affordable for a student who could not afford a four year university. In her article southernization , Lynda Shaffer details how southerization effected various regions across the globe. Shaffer uses southernization to refer to the diverse process that stared in southern Asia and expanded from there to numerous places around the world. Southernization included countless interdependent strands of expansion. Metallurgical, the medical, and the literary were developments that were borrowed from India and Asia. Like westernization changing Europe, southernization changed southern Asia. By the 5th century southerization was well on its way.…

Baja California is one of the 31 states in Mexico. It is both the northernmost and westernmost state of Mexico. But before becoming a state in 1953, the area was known as the North Territory of Baja California. It has an area of 70,113 km2 (27,071 sq mi), or 3.57% of the land mass of Mexico and comprises the northern half of the Baja California peninsula. The state is bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean, on the east by Sonora, the U.S. State of Arizona, and the Gulf of California, and on the south by Baja California Sur. Its northern limit is the U.S. state of California. The state has a population of about 2,844,469, and an estimated 3,165,776 more than the sparsely populated Baja California Sur to the south, and similar to San Diego County, California on its north. Over 75% of the population lives in the capital city, Mexicali, or in Ensenada and Tijuana. Other important cities include San Felipe, Rosarito and Tecate. The population of the state is composed of Mestizos, mostly immigrants from other parts of Mexico, and, as with most northern Mexican states, a large population of Mexicans of European ancestry, and also a large minority group of East Asian, Middle Eastern and indigenous descent. Additionally, there is a large immigrant population from the United States due to its proximity to San Diego and the cheaper cost of living compared to San Diego. There is also a significant population from Central America. Many immigrants moved to Baja California for a better quality of life and the number of higher paying jobs in comparison to the rest of Mexico and Latin America. Baja California is the twelfth largest state by area in Mexico. Its geography ranges from beaches to forests and deserts. The backbone of the state is the Sierra de Baja California, where the Picacho del Diablo, the highest point of the peninsula, is located. This mountain range effectively divides the weather patterns in the state.…

The “American West” is not what many people think of when they hear those words. People think of it as cowboys and Indians fighting on the Great Plains and in the canyons or the travel across rugged terrain traveling as fast as they could for the gold rush. In all honesty the west started as soon as the Americas began to be colonized and many historians say it begins at the Proclamation Line of 1763. They had many struggles with the Native Americans, the French trying to take their land by way of war, and Great Britain, the motherland, taxing them harshly for war debt but the American colonists eventually made their way to what is today commonly called the West.…
