Directions: Decide who goes first. Roll the dye and move the amount of spaces. Answer the level question that is on the space. If you answer correctly you stay on that space. If you answer wrong then you move back 1 space for easy, 2 for medium, and 3 for hard. Example. Mike rolls a five. He lands on an easy space. He answers the question correctly and stays on that space. Kyle rolls now and Mike’s turn is over. The first person to make it all the way around the board wins. You need the exact number to finish. Example. If you are on space 36 you need to roll a one to win.

Up until now, things had been fairly straightforward. Then, once I hit the ‘two’ box, things began to get more complicated. Here, I couldn’t put four or three because two of the boxes had already been filled, and I couldn’t change that. Then, I tried two. This could work, but only if there was a two elsewhere. I couldn’t put a two in the ‘one’ box, but I could put it in the zero box, because of the ‘four’ and ‘three’ boxes. Good thing I didn’t change those. That left me with the ‘one’ box. There was really only one option for that box, and that was putting a one in it.…

A healthy heart is essential for a hockey slap shot. Hockey is mostly thought of as an anaerobic sport/exercise as players play in shifts that can range from 1-2 minutes. For that short amount of time they will exhaust a significant amount of energy that could sustain someone for a much longer duration. Performing a slap shot is an explosive movement. The slap shot can be categorized into 3 stages of movement - Preparation, Windup, and Follow Through/Impact. Consequently the intense nature of the movement causes an increase in your heart rate particularly at the follow through/ impact which is when the player actually will attempt to take the shot .…

Shooting, skating, and goaltending. These are all 3 things that have science behind them in the game of hockey. The slap shot is the hardest shot that a player has to use. What makes a slap shot go so fast. A good slap shot is the result of weight transfer. The weight transfers from the legs to the core to the shoulder down to the arms and then to the stick in the hands. The player has to hit the ice just before the puck. This causes the stick to arch back. Then when the stick makes contact with the puck the part of the stick that was arched releases all of its stored energy on the puck and this causes the puck to go flying. To get more accuracy on the shot the player must flick his/her wrist at the end of motion. The slap shot is an example…

The “Climate Change Debate Overheated after Sceptic Grasped ‘Hockey Stick’” article, written by Fred Pearce, demonstrates how the hockey stick graph constructed by Michael Mann, introduced many disagreements. Fred Pearce notes many individuals such as Steve McIntyre and Ross McKitrick (both referred to as M&M) that believed Michael Mann’s hockey stick graph was created using faulty methods, and were considered imprecise. According to Pearce, M&M publicized a paper arguing that Mann’s smoothing of the graph provided inaccurate results of the temperatures in the early centuries, and consequently, made the blade on the so called hockey stick appear larger. Furthermore, M&M identified tree rings as a bad source of temperature readings after they…

The Globe and Mail’s editorial, “The NHL’s Concussion Quandary”(2015), speaks out regarding the level of long-term harm professional hockey players are enduring due to the lack of guidelines when it comes to concussion protocol. Coming from a hockey family, with professional connections, one must consider what goes on between the players, trainers, coaches, general managers, and everyday fans being the issue not the regulations of the league. “The NHL’s Concussion Quandary” is finding players returning to the game too soon a pressing problem, what the outside eye doesn’t see is the player “sucking it up” to receive their pay check and bonuses. Although their main talent lies on the ice, professional hockey players have skill when it comes to…

The article, Ban Fighting in Hockey discusses the dangers of fighting in the game of hockey. Author Charlie Gillis is arguing the fact that the old saying says, “Hockey needs fighting” should be reconsidered. This journal coming out shortly after the death of rookie senior hockey player, Donald Sanderson, caused the uproar against violence from Gillis. His argument was up against great odds, because when Colin Campbell (who is the director of hockey operations) brought the topic of harsher punishments up, only two General Managers supported the idea.…

You’ve seen it. At least once in the hall. Maybe you've even done it to someone. Some people call it a “shoulder check”. This name is based off a term in hockey. This is because the actions are somewhat similar to each other. Shoulder Checking in hockey is running your shoulder into another player’s shoulder. This is usually done while going full speed down the ice with your shoulder. Shoulder checking another person in the hall is still running your shoulder into theirs. It is much less violent than in hockey and is obviously not done on ice.…

Shoulder fake left, head fake right, a sweet inside outside move, and he fires it in top shelf, beating the goalie glove side to win the game. While that may sound like a narrative of a game-winning hockey goal, in reality, it is 1:30 AM on your average Thursday night and I am struggling to find the perfect concluding sentence to finish my history term paper. Often when I am struggling to find an answer to a question or need to concentrate on any given topic, I reach for my worn-out Warrior hockey stick and my dusty orange ball and begin to stickhandle mindlessly. One might never know, that my mind is far away from hockey as I look like a complete fool deking (hockey term for getting past people) imaginary people on my way to an imaginary net.…

When I first played the game, I didn’t really have any initial strategy in mind. I just picked numbers at random to choose until getting down to the last few. I thought this game was very simple and easy to understand. One key insight I had was to cross out three marks to get rid of most of the marks. When it came down to the final three or four marks, I had to look carefully at them to see what numbers I could choose before the next person’s turn, so after their turn there would be one, two, or three marks left. For instance, if there were 5 marks left, I could cross out one, and then any number the next person picked would leave me with a number of marks I could cross out with one, two, or three crosses. This is when I realized the strategy of this game.…
