The Most Unforgettable Experience
I was born and raised in Beijing. It is the capital of China, and also the center of China. Most of students come to Beijing right after they graduated from universities. They come to find a job or any kinds of opportunities. They think that Beijing is the city where all of the sure dreams will come true. The city even attracts lots of international students to come for dig “the gold” in their lives. Especially after the Beijing Olympic Games, there are more and more foreign students who choose Beijing, or some other cities in China to make their dreams come true. That was where my story happened.
During the summer of 2009, I just graduated from high school. Everyone knows high school in China means nothing but exhausted, so most students just spend their whole summer to celebrate that they finally survived from high school. So did I. I’m the kind of person who likes music and social contact, such as clubs. I like to have fun with my friends in clubs. One night, we went to the club we usually hang out which calls “Club Mix”. It is one of the most famous clubs in Beijing. When I was drinking with my friends, I saw a blonde girl sitting at another table alone, so I went to her, and asked her, “Hey, you wanna play dice?” That was the first time I saw her. Unfortunately she didn’t know how to play the dices. Hu 2
However after then, fortunately thing was we started to have some conversations and she speaks English. So I started to talk to her in English. I knew her name is Julia and she is a Ukrainian who came to China to study Chinese in Nanking. She was visiting Beijing with her friends during that time. We exchanged our phone numbers when we said goodbye. We talked, and texted every day even though she got back to Nanking city. I began to feel like I have a crash on this girl. I did not care she came from a whole other country name Ukraine; I did not care

I was closing in behind her as she reached the crosswalk. She started to cross, of course I followed. After we crossed the street, she walked for awhile, then she sat down on a communal bench. “May I sit here?” I asked. “Of course,” she replied. A minute or two later, she asked “You look familiar, do I know you?” I stated who I was. Everything clicked after that. We started talking about the old days when nothing really matters. I lost track of time, we sat there for what seemed like minutes. Only to find out it had been a couple hours. We exchanged phone numbers, I told her to keep in touch. We went our separate ways, I called a cab and went back to my…

I was totally unaware of something that was soon to come and change my life. I was still in grade school playing with my friends when my dad came with the principle and told me that I am going to America.…

The excitement that connected me to Hong Kong wasn't there anymore. No one touched my hair. I wasn’t the only gweilo in Hong Kong. I wasn’t special. In the dai pai dong I wondered about how the place was when I was not around. I was snapped out of my dream by an expat. He was huge in build and had a heavy British accent. He asked what did I want to order. I ran away from there. What had happened to all the people, to the culture I loved? Hong Kong wasn’t unique any more. Hong Kong was growing up into a cosmopolitan city.…
