Day 126
We’ve been at the salty sea for 18 weeks and we still haven’t reached land. What to do? My whole crew is ready to turn around but I refuse to turn around without finding what I set out looking for.
Day 128
CAN YOU BELIEVE IT.! We survived the horrible attack from the kraken. . .
It started out when I was writing in my journal, when I looked out my window to find a humongous eye the size of 3 dinner plates. I jumped in my britches and ran to the deck. It was pouring down rain and the sky was pitch black with thundering clouds forming all around us. I tried to pull in the sail before STRIKE! The lightning hit the mass and off it went to sea. I turned around and my crew was running and screaming like chickens with their heads cut off. I yelled and yelled and yelled but they didn’t seem to listen until 8, giant, red arms came swinging at the boat. Luckily they missed. I turned on the motors of the boat hoping we could get out of the krakens clutch. He had us surrounded! Everyone went to their battle stations. Men were shooting guns, throwing harpoons, and blasting canons. The kraken was furious! Out of no where the boat started to rise, and next thing you know we slid back in the water to find the giant head directly above us. The eyes were staring at us in the face, its arms grabbed a hold of the boat, and we had no more weapons to fire. We thought we were for sure dead when STRIKE! The lightning had saved us. The kraken slowly floated to the bottom of the ocean as we celebrated in drinking a nice, cold beer. Now were just slowly sailing the ocean, with no sail, hoping to find land, and get there

    During the Spanish conquest of the Incan Empire the role of the Kuraka was crucial in gaining control over the Andean society. The role of the Kuraka could be thought of as “provincial nobility”[1] whose main job was to control the labor and tribute made and delivered from the natives to the state. In order to do this job the Kurakas had to maintain respect from the natives while maintaining good relations with the colonial state. This could be difficult considering that too much affiliation with the state could lead to a loss of status to the natives, and a loss of respect from the natives would make one useless to the state. “The Indian who broke entirely with his own culture and tried to become European was an isolated and ultimately pitiable figure”[2] . They “had to be willing to use their traditional authority and their knowledge of values and standards of their own culture in the service of the European rulers”[3]. The role of the Kuraka is not one that can be simply defined. The relationship between Kurakas and the Spanish and Kurakas and the indigenous Andean people is complex and varies between every village and each individual Kuraka. The Kurakas walked a fine line in both societies, but without them the relationship between the Natives and the state would not have been possible. An example of a “Perfect Kuraka” is Don Sebastian, the Kuraka of Huarochiri in the 1640’s, who not only helped maintain local Andean traditions, but also actively participated in sacrifices and other traditions banned by the state. He was able to keep this information from reaching the Spanish authorities and in doing so was able to balance his loyalty to the colonial state, and at the same time, maintained respect and acceptance from his local people.[4]…

However, Linda Greenlaw, the captain of the Hannah Boden, has proved herself that female can be a fisherman. Sword fishing is not easy and very challenge for her. She has to use many supervision and leadership skills to manage the boat, crews and fishing during the month of the trip. Especially dealing with crew problems, she has to solve them as soon as possible in order to maintain her rule and teamwork, which is very important to make her trip run smoothly and reach her ultimate goal. However, even though Greenlaw did not expect of what will happen with her crew during offshore but she has proved herself that she has an ability to cope with them in the effective and efficiency way. Therefore, showing she has capability to cope with crew problems and maintain teamwork among of crews, there are some significant troubles that challenge Greenlaw, which are a striking her irresponsible crew, racial problem between her crewmember and the health problem of her 40-year-old crew.…
