The John Woodruff: A Professional Runner
John Woodruff is a professional runner, born in july of 1915 and passed away in october of 2007 at the age of 92. While he was alive, he was a very athletic runner. He ran 400-1500 meters, his club was the Pittsburgh Panthers. His gold medals were Athletics at the 1936 summer olympics, men’s 800 meter.
During WWII John Woodruff won AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) in 1937, College Freshman at University of Pittsburgh. He had placed second. Did you know he was one of the people who helped embarrass Adolf Hitler? What I find interesting is that since he has been buried, every year a 5 Kilometer road race is held in Connellsville, (Where he was born) to honor John. He was such a talented young man, Passed away in march of 2007.
