The Internet And Information Technology Has Shaped American History In The 21st Century
The Internet and Information Technologies have shaped American history in the 21st century. The Internet started out as a large network of computers that were linked together so users could share information instantly and easily. The federal government and universities first developed much of the infrastructure of the internet back in the 1970s and 1980s. It took until the mid-1990s for the personal home computer or desktop computer to become more affordable so Americans could buy one for their home.

With the internet it is possible to have all information either on your cellular phone or your personal computer at home. The internet also provides a place to exchange ideas, buy or sell goods, or can be considered a public square where people share their political views.

New companies have built cell-phone towers, laid fiber-optic cable, digitizing libraries, networking offices, designing websites, and streamlining computer chips. Digital technology has provided a larger network of cable television networks which offer twenty four hour news or can interrupt regularly scheduled programs with the latest news from the other side of the world.

The growth of the information revolution and the Internet resulted in two consequences which are increased globalization and corporate mergers. Critics of globalization feel the Western products and ideals are invading the world with no regard for local or native customs. With giant companies merging together to create bigger corporations they can create and distribute their own entertainment and news
