As a young black man, what do you think is the biggest issue that millennials face?…
While the President is a black man in the most powerful position in the world he is not the first black man with the power to promote change. Obama is the highest ranking American black man ever he is not the only black that has tried to have a positive influence on the racial landscape of America. Before Obama we had Dr. Martin Luther King, the Rev. Jesse Jackson and Nelson Mandela all of whom have promoted civil rights, equality and cultural integration. The ability to change is in the hands of each individual person to take responsibility for the change in their circumstances. If things were different just because someone said it should be so, it sure would make all things possible and easy. Unfortunately, not all things come easy and people have to work to achieve their…
”TAKE up the White Man’s burden - Send forth the best ye breed- Go bind your sons to exile, To serve your captives need;” Those are the words of Rudyard Kipling that are meant to describe the back then ubiquitous way of thinking that was called “The white man’s burden”.…
On Tuesday January 20th 2009 in Washington D.C., our 44th president Barack Obama stood before a record breaking crowd of Americans to deliver his inauguration speech which marked the commencement of his four year term. Being the first African American president, the journey that Barack Obama embarked on was difficult but he worked hard to win over voters with his many speeches that promised “Change”; the slogan of his campaign. As president Obama presented his inaugural speech, Americans all over the country witnessed a highly anticipated and great moment in history. In hopes of reassuring his supporters and promising those people with doubts President Obama said, “Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real, they are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this America: They will be met.” With that said it has been almost two years since we elected this democratic candidate to run our country and within his time of being president we have already took notice to a great amount of progress. Though not all issues have been completely solved president…

Elections were changed forever when the youth received the right to vote from the passing of the new amendment to the Constitution. On July 1, 1971 the Twenty-sixth amendment was passed and children at the young age of eighteen were forever given the right to vote in elections. The twenty-sixth amendment affect youth in a positive way because it allowed their voices to be heard.…
Millennials are people born between the years of 1980 and 2000 and they are roughly between the ages of 18 and 33. Some generations prior to millennials are Generation X, Baby Boomers, and the Silent Generation. Millennials in many ways are different from any other generation. Millennials are the most racially diverse, less percentage of them are married, and also studies have shown that many millennials are considered to be helicoptered by their parents. These parents are called helicopter parents. Helicopter parents can be causing more harm than good to their kids.…

What is America’s gift to my generation? This is a good question with many possible answers. One might say that America gave their generation freedom of speech. While another might say that America gave their generation freedom of religion. These are both good answers, but I say that America has given my generation so much more than just freedom of speech or religion, and many agree with me.America has given my generation the right to vote regardless of race or gender, the right to have our own personal belongings, the right to protest against something that we believe is wrong. America has given my generation the freedom to own weapons to defend ourselves and the freedom to go wherever we want and be whoever we want. America has given my generation…
America’s gift? There are a lot of those… but what is America’s gift to my generation? I would say the opportunities that America has given us that no other country has. I can do anything that I want to do when I grow up. Children these days have everything they need. Our technology is growing stronger day by day, our agriculture is some of the best in the entire world, and the intelligence rank for the US as compared to other countries is 42 out of 224! Young people have more opportunites than they have ever had and…
Studying African American History shows it is that no one is better than the other person based on skin, culture, past, or which country they came from. African American experiences with cruelty and prejudice were horrible. It is taking time since the Civil Rights act for some white people not to have hateful racial feelings towards the African Americans. Although we continue to face racism and problems in the United States, no one could deny that African Americans have gained a lot in education and political influence with a black man as our president.…
They have been awakened to see through the lens of equality and impartiality, adjusting the critical thinking skills to solutions for white supremacy, and Patriarchy in education. Education for minority students of color has always been designed to maintain black subservience. It is use of education that has promoted white supremacy and it will be education that dismantles it as well. Students must challenge the status quo of racism as a whole and individually, and they also must address institutional and cultural racism every chance they can get. It will be minority students of color who lead the way addressing that connection between power to race, racism, oppression, gender and class which will unfold the micro aggressions of white supremacy in education.…
On January 20, 2009 everything changed for black America with Barack Obama becoming the first black president of the United States. Overnight the African American population got an image that they always wanted to have. It was the greatest political victory in the history of black America.…

These and the others on the extensive list of African American Firsts did not come easy or were given.
