Holiday Essay
Everyone has a family tradition whether it is going out of town or just staying home and being with your family. My family tradition is passed down from generation to generation, and helps define the true meaning of family. It helps build everlasting memories and enrich our culture. My family gathers for any holiday or special celebration. Furthermore, I would consider Christmas to be my favorite Holiday of the year. The word Christmas in itself brings to one’s mind a sense of happiness, joy and amusement. We begin our tradition by selecting our tree, setting the ornaments, and filling it with gifts for our entire family. This marks the beginning of our yearly tradition.
Over the years it has become an event where we come together as a family.
My family consists of about 40 people; all ranging from infants, toddlers, teens and adults. All coming together to celebrate Christmas day. The environment is great, decorated tree, lights, music, food and plenty of holiday spirit. Everyone will bring their favorite dish or desert.
This year my mom will cook Birria. For desert we will have my personal favorite which is cooked by my Nina. It is called Capirutada; it consists of bread rolls and brown sugar. We gather at my house right around 4:00 p.m. We have plenty of food and everyone brings something different to eat. As we eat dinner everyone will catch up on what’s new, what they have been up too and we also share everlasting memories.
After dinner, is when our Christmas party comes alive. My family is known as a happy, cheerful and bright family. As soon as one person begins to dance, everyone joins in as well. We continue to dance well in to the night. There are many pictures taken as a family. I find it very funny that my younger cousins will make funny faces as their picture is taken. Every picture that is taking is unique; it has its own story to tell. We share these photo’s amongst our self’s

I grew up in a Mexican household filled with family, love, and warm greetings. We had many traditions within our family. I didn’t always feel like I belonged sometimes or that I was missing something. It could have been that I don’t speak Spanish as well as the rest of my family does or maybe I haven’t visited Mexico as much as they have. The traditions and culture are what brought us close together. We had family get togethers what seemed like every weekend, In reality it is more like every month. They didn’t have to be very formal at all, events like birthdays, weddings, quinceañeras, Christmas, and other holidays are all things that bring families together. And we definitely went all out.…

During my childhood, my family indulged in a weekly ritual we called family night. We used this time for various activities. We would hold family councils where we truly believed we had a say in important subjects. We would play games and have lessons such as "being kind to your family" or some other moral issue of the time. Sometimes we would sing songs, hear stories from Dad who could rival Mark Twain any day, or spend an hour to two eating ice cream and playing at the park.…

The core of all families is comprised of just a few simple things: love created through shared experience, blood consisting of almost identical DNA sequences, and tradition that guides and creates rigidity from which the family is built around. While love and blood are unquestionably important one thing is certain. Families thrive through tradition. Traditions that shape and mold the individuals that make up a family unit are passed down from generation to generation. Some of these traditions change and adapt to the current era while others see little change if any at all. Whether they are story-telling, going to grandma’s on Christmas, or that annual fishing trip, traditions serve as the glue that holds a family together.…

At my dad’s house, I received all my gifts and then we would sit down have lunch with his fiancé and talk about how Christmas has been so far. Being with my dad just makes me happy that he was around, even though he was no longer with my mom. Even if it’s only a few hours with my dad, we would always find Christmas movies on the TV and just relax until I had to leave. One of our favorite Christmas movies are Dr. Seuss’ “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and “The Polar Express”. We watch the same 2…

The holiday tradition for christmas in my family starts on Christmas eve, since I have little brother and sisters we bake cookies for santa and set the milk out and we even put reindoor food out! (It's glitter and trail mix) When me and my siblings have finally fell asleep, my parents put out nthe gifts they don't wrap the ones from santa so it looks more realistic! Anyways, early in the morning we wake up and see the gifts from santa, then we open the ones from our parents. After our presents have been opened and the mess from all the wrapping paper and open boxes are cleaned up we go to the waffle house and chow down! Then we get together with our whole family and have christmas dinner and exchange presents. I love christmas with my family, not only because of the gifts but because we don't get together as much as we should!…

Christmas is known for coming quicker and quicker each passing year. Many people begin to silently panic as soon as they hear the first Christmas song on the radio. To me it strikes into my head that our yearly family Christmas dinner is ever so close. As a child I enjoyed the Christmas dinner but not for the wholesome heart warming reasons that echo through my words now, but for the greedy natured presents. Admittedly the presents still are a highlight of the Christmas dinner, but after a few seasoned years of learning that Christmas is not about materialistic items I now feel that the Christmas dinner is the best part of this day.…
