It was Thursday morning and all I saw was my mom in the kitchen getting the turkey ready; while, my dad was getting the ladder from outside so my sisters can start bring the Christmas decorations down from the attic. It’s a big and fun day for all of us especially for me because I get to spend quality time with my family just like any other year.…
Christmas is a holiday celebrated around the world. Children wait all night the evening before for santa to place their gifts beneath the tree. Excitement rages from them the morning of December twenty-fifth; pretty wrapping paper and shiny bows glisten under the christmas tree lights while the bulbs upon it sparkle so elegantly. However, Christmas is not about all these aspects that it is displayed as. Christmas has more meaning than pretty gifts and how many gifts each child has under the tree. This holiday is above the amount of money one kid gets while the next gets so little. Though some see Christmas as a materialistic holiday, it has far more depth than so little meaning. The Holiday of Christmas contrasts greatly with celebrations…
The holiday tradition for christmas in my family starts on Christmas eve, since I have little brother and sisters we bake cookies for santa and set the milk out and we even put reindoor food out! (It's glitter and trail mix) When me and my siblings have finally fell asleep, my parents put out nthe gifts they don't wrap the ones from santa so it looks more realistic! Anyways, early in the morning we wake up and see the gifts from santa, then we open the ones from our parents. After our presents have been opened and the mess from all the wrapping paper and open boxes are cleaned up we go to the waffle house and chow down! Then we get together with our whole family and have christmas dinner and exchange presents. I love christmas with my family, not only because of the gifts but because we don't get together as much as we should!…
Christmas brings out a certain joy in me. Seeing the same enthusiasm in others makes me realize how wonderful the season is. Hearing the songs that can brighten anyone’s day, and smelling fresh cookies straight out of the oven is just a bonus to the already perfect holiday. Christmas 2015 here I…
I always know it is Thanksgiving morning when I awake to the smell of the turkey roasting in the oven and the cinnamon apple spice tea brewing on the stove. The rest of the morning is spent helpingmy mom and grandmother cooking in our large open kitchen. Every year for as long as I can remember, my grandmother uses my Nana’s recipies when cooking the thick butter garlic mashed potatoes, homemade sweet red cranberry sauce, and the rich creamy dark gravy. On the other hand, my mom and I always cook the french green beans, sausage and bread stuffing, and also our homemade pumpkin pie together. While the women spend most of the early afternoon in the kitchen getting things ready, the men normally gather in the living room and watch sports or play a board game on the coffee table. It is a rule in our house that no man is allowed in the kitchen while we are cooking unless he is coming to help with dishes; otherwise the men eat all the food as it is being prepared.…
Christmas day it is important for people that celebrate this holiday, for others is just another regular day. But, even if people don’t celebrate Christmas they have a holiday that could be the same when they enjoy and gather together with their family. For Modern Family, it was important for them to make this express Christmas because they wanted to have a family reunion and celebrate together. They all put their effort to accomplish their goal by buying the tree, putting the colorful lights, wrapping the presents and making dinner.…
As the holidays come closer my emotions start escalating. Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years can be very exciting dates but also very thoughtful and saddening. Many times several things occur suddenly, not always good but not always bad. At times we aren’t prepared for anything else but good things to happen, without considering there is no sunshine without a little rain. Thanksgiving is right around the corner and it is about being thankful for anything we’ve had or have throughout our life. It isn’t about the material things “Oh because I just got a new iPhone, or a new iPad” it is much more than that.…
Later, we make and decorate sugar cookies and spend the rest of the day together with my grandparents.…
Christmas in America has had different meanings to many people through history. Farmers, workers, and religious adherents practiced their traditions in the public sphere in respective periods of time. However, the modern understanding of Christmas celebration stems from the experience of a growing middle class as it set out to define its identity. Christmas as a domestic, commercial holiday originates from the middle class engagement with the vehicles of the first industrial revolution and the subsequent adoption of a culture of consumerism. Rural farmers traditionally celebrated the end of the harvest and the beginning of the long winter with feasting and celebration at Christmas during the eighteenth century.…
My family, including my dad, my grandpa, my two uncles, my sister, and I all drove one mile down the road to our Lake to appreciate the rest of the sublime day, as we were laughing and smiling to our heart's content. We wanted to spend the rest of the day enjoying the time we had before it goes. We put our swimming suits on, accumulated our fishing poles and gear, our roasting sticks to cook the hot dogs, and a bag of saccharine marshmallows. On the way toward our destination, we sang many…
We all celebrate Christmas, but do we really care about anything else other than getting presents? Christmas should be the time where you are happy to be alive and celebrating with other family members. Spending time with the people who matters is what really important cause they won’t…
If we start getting enough people ~ maybe we can bring back those special traditions of exchanging a small gift, singing some songs, saying a prayer, playing games and just enjoying each other’s company. We always eat at 1:00 p.m. on Christmas ~ and I am guessing we will eat at 6ish on Christmas Eve. (Since this is the first time….I am winging it).…
There is always the traditional Korean food, of course. But it’s not just the act of eating Thanksgiving dinner. The hours of preparation and the delicious smells that fill the house that entire week are just as important, as are the leftovers that last for days. In my family, the cooking of Christmas cookies has always begun the day after Thanksgiving – if not before. The preparation, eating, and preserving of food becomes both a family tradition and a ritual of community and togetherness.…
In the morning and in the afternoon December 31, everyone in my family is definitely has something to do. For instance, mommy and I are always looking for recipes in advance; in order to please tastes of our family and guests, but my grandmother always gets it better and satisfies everyone’s appetite with some fantastic dishes. Besides, on our table there are always the traditional dishes such as Olivie and herring under a fur coat. Great food is almost the first reason why I love New Year holiday so much.…
Finally, summer time, off to the beach we go to spend a week full of girls, parties, and fun. All that stood between me then was a long and exhausting seven hour drive to Panama City Beach, Florida. So I woke up, called Jordan, who was never ready on time, and off we went. When we arrived, we were welcomed by parties galore, girls in bikinis, and the welcoming sound of waves crashing against the beach. It was like they were waiting for us to…
