They say that poverty has been lessen during his time because of large production of rice due to the discovery of the “Golden Rice” but the truth is according to the study of the World Bank, poverty has risen from 24 percent in 1974 to 40 percent in 1986. The countryside suffered the same fate as well. They also said that a lot of infrastructures were built during his time like the CCP and Folk Arts Theater just to name a few however the budget of the government was not sufficient to pay for all of this infrastructures, where did they get the money? Marcos’s government decided to loan to IMF and use the money to build all this buildings. This large amount of money needs to be paid quickly for it has interest over the years but it looks like Marcos had turned a blind eye over this matter and instead continued to borrow money and construct more buildings which led the rose of the national debt from 360 million dollars in 1962 to 25 billion dollars in 1986. This continuous construction of buildings was used by Marcos to show the Filipino people that the economy was growing and it was sufficient. Another thing that they were pointing about was the GDP of the Philippines at that time. They were saying that it was Marcos’s time when we are finally catching up to the economy of the Tigers of Asia. That the annual growth were in the line of the tigers that’s why we can build all this infrastructures. The real annual growth at that time were 3.5 percent 1951 to 1965 it was low but slowly rising, when Marcos entered the scene the annual growth drop down to a whopping 1.4 percent annual.
