Cell phones come in handy during an emergency. First, if someone is driving and lands into an accident, most cars don’t have the “GM on star” button so they are most likely to use their cell phone to get help. Anyone can dial 911, and get the help they need in just a matter of seconds. Whereas if someone didn’t own a cell phone it would be very difficult to get help as fast. There are times where someone can be in a very critical situation where if they do not get the help they need as soon as possible they could potentially die. For example, if someone’s head got cracked open during the car accident they would immediately need help from the paramedics. Also, if there is an urgent situation, where you believe there is someone following you for example, and your life is in danger then cell phones are there as a tool. One can easily contact the police or a family member to seek help, and save their life. In contrast, if someone did not have a phone then the “stalker” has a better chance of getting a hold of you. It will make it hard for someone to escape a situation like this. Thirdly, cell phones also come in handy when you forget to inform your parents or friends about any new event coming up. For example, unexpectedly you have to stay after school to finish a test, and your mom and dad are not aware of it. Then you can use your cell phone to let them know. Overall, cell phones can be realistic in times of an emergency.…

Today when social situations present themselves knees enervate and nerves are elicited. Firstly, it is imperative for you to realize how mobile phones are damaging our society. As study shows from Roy Morgan Research, up to one in two Australians have a mobile phone. You walk along the street, how many people do you see using their mobile phone? Texting? Talking? You see a mate in the street and you start talking to him, but he is only half listening because he is on his mobile phone. People use mobile phones now to tell things to others that should be said face to face; e.g.: break ups. People have to stand up to reality. The real question is now, has the blessing of a mobile phone turned society upside down?…

Do smart phones hinder interaction with family? When is the right time to put down these electronics, and communicate with our loved ones? In earlier years stories were passed thru generations giving us amazing pieces of literature, such as Beowulf, The Iliad, and The Odyssey. Now days we cannot even put the phones down at the dinner table to tell our families how are days were. The trend of how American people communicate seems to show that most families communication may one day cease due to overabundent phone use. As a wise once man said “In every conceivable manner, the family is link to our past, bridge to our future.” (Haley) Meaning phones cannot teach us what is important, or tell us tales of previous generations within our family tree. Modern families tend be ignorant to their family’s heritage, commonalities, and even family traditions. Things seem to get lost in the barrier of technology; people can’t seem to put down these spectacular phones that have made great strides and advancements in recent years.…

When I was a young girl you had to be at home to receive a phone call, have a set of encyclopaedias to do your homework, post letters and wait days for a reply, take your video camera or camera out with you to be able to capture special moments and have your Walkman and cassettes with you to listen to music. It’s almost unbelievable to think that now in 2012 we have a device in our pockets that will allow us to make and receive calls, texts and emails, take videos and pictures and do many other things. With the changes in modern technology over the years we now really do seem to have the world at our finger tips, the internet can give us almost any information we want in seconds, we can buy almost anything over the net, we can get free music and films, find jobs, places to live and we can keep in contact with friends and family or even meet new people. A recent EU study shows that there are a growing number of Irish adults who use just a mobile phone. The numbers who use just mobile handsets is 35% up 7% since a study at the end of 2009. The number of Irish households with a computer has jumped 5% in just over a year to 69%, while 66% have internet access up 4% since a study at the end of 2009. The survey showed that 58% of Irish households have access to broadband an increase of 4% over the same previous survey. So this tells us that more and more people are coming into the world of technology. It makes me wonder though, what effects does all this have on society? Is all this new technology a good thing or does it have its bad points? Was life easier when an Apple and a Blackberry were just fruits? Seeing as the number of people using mobile phones and the internet is growing it is clear that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages for people, but the reality is most of us don’t really know enough about where the information we are sending and posting goes and what effects using them has on our health.…

People use mobile technology in many various ways. In observing many people in the Thompson Library cafe on a Sunday afternoon, it was evident that mobile technology was used almost constantly by them. Hardly anyone in the space was without a phone of some kind. The younger the person looked, the more likely it seemed that they had their mobile device in their hands. The cafe in Thompson Library seemed like the prime location to observe people using their mobile technology. Not only is it a busy place so there would be many people to obsverve, but people were probably more inclined to use their phones there rather than if I had been observing people on the upper levels of the library.…
