Texting During Classes
According to Clayson and Haley (2013) in the article “The Impact of Texting on Students in Marketing Classes,” texting during classes has become a complex problem due to the fact that many professors feel that as a discourteous and unprofessional. As a result, teachers have been implanting diversities rules to try to control the texting because understanding a class means to be concentrated in physically and mentally in order to get quickly and clearly the information. The use of cell phones make students be decentralized during classes. The authors stated through a poll for students at two universities who refuse to be addicted to texting that almost all send or receive text during the semester and text while in class even though they know …show more content…
Nonetheless, for getting these abilities implies so much the teachers` capabilities to explain the topics and keep the classes dynamic. Even if professors would get that students do not use their cell phones during classes, they will be bored because most of teachers do not know how to have a dynamic classes. In order to avoid boring classes, they could take an advantage of the technologies with animation, videos, Power Points which give students more attention and enthusiasm to the classes, and ease a lot of work and save time to professors.
One important detail that population should pay attention is that addiction in the usage of cell phones can happen. As we know addictions are those things that humans cannot resist to do such as consuming of drugs, alcohol, candy, etc. When students know that using cell phones during classes is uneducated and their professor will become upset, but they cannot quit to use them. At this time students are suffering addiction to their cell phones; most of these students cannot be away of their cell phones for a minute. As a result, population should take care of their children at time before it become in

First of all, when I was a student in high school, there many students were bringing their phones with them inside school. Even though, bringing phones in school was not allowed, the students did not care so much about it. As a result of that, the administration of the school became so strict about this issue. For example, I remember the administration had issued some procedures to stop students from bringing their phones at school time so at the beginning of school time in the morning, there teachers, who were standing at the entrance of school, were inspecting students to make sure that they do not bring their phones during school time. Even though, the rigor of the administration in this issue was strict, there still students were bringing their phones. For example, during class time, there were two students, who had been caught while using their phones during class, said that they could not stay away from their phones even for a secant, and also they mentioned that they sometime slept while their phones were on and next them. All in all, this issue could be a hundred percent fixed because many of teen students are really addicted and hardly to be fixed.…

A cell phone can produce many distractions in the classroom. Loud ringtones and musical noises can easily cause a huge disturbance by calls, notifications, games, or text messages. If allowed, students would take full advantage of the use of their cell phones. Students could answer phone calls or reply to text messages at any given time during class. With today’s technology, the everyday cell phone has actually been transformed into a miniature computer. Now these cellular devices come with many more sources of entertainment along with internet capabilities. The capability of downloading games and applications would become more of a worry for the students than learning the lesson that class is providing that day. With all of these distractions a cell phone provides, any lesson would turn into hell for both the teacher and the students who actually intend to do something.…

On-task behavior is very important in the classroom. According to Jones & Jones (2010), on-task behavior should be magnified more so than off-task behavior. “Although we often fall into the trap of believing that critical remarks will improve students’ behaviors, research suggests that the opposite is true.” (Jones & Jones, 2010, p. 75). Technology has affected the ability to keep students on task in both negative ways and positive ways. It has affected the ability to keep students on task negatively with the distraction of personal smart phones that divert students from their school work and activities. In many of the classes that I have observed over the last school year, students were on their cell phones watching YouTube videos or checking their Facebook pages. Some teachers allowed students to have their cell phones out if they finished all of their school work and others had a zero tolerance policy for cell phones in the classroom. Technology has affected the ability to keep students on task in a positive way by using different methods to grasp students’ attention; PowerPoint presentations that can be visually stimulating, educational video clips as well, and personal devices that allow students to respond to multiple choice questions during class discussions. Teachers should regulate the use of technology to prevent classroom management issues by having a zero tolerance policy for cell phones. I believe that cell phones are more of a hindrance in the classroom and students are too distracted by text messages and Facebook updates. Technology can be used to prevent classroom management issues by engaging students in lessons that integrate technology like the examples I have previously listed. Websites like…

The article, The Cost of Texting in the Classroom, demonstrates the cognitive capability of the human mind, the distractions from electronic devices in the classroom, and the methods that instructors can take to find a balance between learning and a student’s social life. The human mind is a great thing. People, students especially, think that multitasking comes naturally to them, but they don’t seem to recognize the damage they are causing to their learnings. The slightest glance at an electronic device can shift their mind to another rear and steer them to a different track. Not only does an electronic device effect the beholder, it also distracts the ones around them. Instructors are now making different efforts in order to maintain this…

I’ve realized technology is very helpful now days but in the classrooms it’s more distracting than anything else. As Michael J. Bugeja stated in “Facing the Facebook”, Academics assessing learning outcomes often discover that technology is as much a distraction in the classroom as a tool. I catch myself checking my phone in class every now and then but when I do I miss out on what the instructor is teaching. Technology is a great tool for us to learn and gather information but when you put technology in the classroom it becomes more distracting than helpful.…

Technology has came a long way and will continue to improve and explore unknown territories. One of the new things discovered is texting and while texting is helpful it has a lot of disadvantages and downfalls. If texting could be listed as a skill, many of my friends would qualify as highly skilled in that area. I am glued to my phone and always texting so I know firsthand just how much texting can be abused and its less than helpful qualities. Texting kills some good old fashioned phone call conversations, face time, and is making annoying phrases part of everyday talking; texting is an obsession for many people and is doing more damage than most people know by damaging people’s people skills.…

Texting in class is a very touchy subject, and can be argued from many different aspects. One of the main things though, is that texting in class would not be disruptive just for the student texting, but also to the students sitting around the student that is doing the texting. In this today’s generation, everywhere around us people of all ages and cultures circle around their cell phones in everything they do. Whether we are walking down the road, in the grocery style, in class, or even much dangerously, in driving, cell phones have grown to be a very vital part of our everyday lives. However, when it comes to cell phones and texting in the classroom, a very controversial answer is given between teachers and students. Students say they don’t see a problem with texting in class, teachers on the other hand, think otherwise. This is where the problem begins; teachers hold a very persuasive argument about why students shouldn’t be allowed to text in class or even use the cell phone at all. Students on the other hand, can also put up a somewhat reasonable argument as well.…

We are very much aware of it. But some college students just let their cell phone control them. In 2012, an article was written by Arnold D. Froese along with fellow other authors about surveys and research about students who use cell phones in the classroom, stating that,”Many students admit to using cell phones for social networking purposes in the classroom” (Froese, etc). So if students know that they are distracting themselves, how can they be stopped? It’s not only that, but by getting caught in the cell phone web, they are hindering how well they do in class. The article tells about how an experiment was done in a class to see how well students who were to text during a lecture and that, “Ellis, Daniels, and Jauregui (2010) most directly assessed the effects of texting on performers in a real classroom context…..Experimental students scored significantly lower than control students did on a pop quiz at the end of class. Although this experiment comes directly from a classroom setting, sending a text message to a teacher who does not respond is likely not as distracting as a conversational texting dialogue”(Froese et al. 325). Cell phones are clearly a problem for the future of education. We need a way to fight…
