Outcome 1.1: Compare and contrast different organizational structures and cultures. The values and behaviors that contribute to the unique social and psychological environment of an organization are called organizational culture. This is the behavior of humans who are part of an organization and the meanings that the people attach to their actions. Culture includes the organization values, visions, norms, working language, systems, symbols, beliefs and habits. There are four types of organizational culture: Clan, Adhocracy, Market, and Hierarchy. Clan oriented cultures are family-like, with a focus on mentoring, nurturing, and “doing things together.” Adhocracy oriented cultures are dynamic and entrepreneurial, with a focus on risk-taking, innovation, and “doing things first.” Market oriented cultures are results oriented, with a focus on competition, achievement, and “getting the job done.” Hierarchy oriented cultures are structured and controlled, with a focus on efficiency, stability and “doing things right.” There’s no correct organizational culture for an organization. All cultures promote some forms of behavior, and inhibit others. Tarmac has clear organizational structure as defined under two department: product operation and management operation, engineering department. They also have clear role defined. Organization structure consists of a framework within which an organization directed different activities such as roles, responsibilities and power to operate at their different management levels. There are different types of structures which can be used in a organization There are different types of structures which can be used in a organization Tall structure: If the span of control is narrow, then there will be many management levels. That is, there will be many managers.
Flat structure: If the span of control is wide, then there will be fewer management levels. That is, there will be fewer managers. The flat organizational structure has three basic benefits: communication, flexibility, and degree of supervision.
Matrix structure: Organization with a multiple command system where an employee might be accountable to one superior for overall performance as well as to one or more other superiors for specific project Outcome 1.2: Explain how relationship between on organization’s structures and culture can impact on the performance of the business. Culture has a huge effect on your success rate. Organization's culture has a lot to do with the success rate of business. The term culture generally means “how we do things around here.” Imagine that someone asks how successfully an organization delivers products or service. If we say, “We’re pretty poor at delivering these,” we’re voicing a perception of one aspect of culture. Culture comes into play on businesses in a number of areas. There are different factors, which include strengths, weaknesses, education, employee’s experience. These are very helpful to make decisions. Management skills and leadership plays very important role in an orgnsational cultures. More experienced leadership can make long lasting decisions due to their abilities and experiences. A strong and successful organizational culture should alter the employee’s view of work.
