1. PROJECT OVERVIEW

1.1. Introduction
St. Joseph College, High School department is located at Olongapo City, Zambales established on 1945. They have campuses for Grade School, High School and College. It is a religious school and its religious affiliation are Diocesan and Roman Catholic and their library is open for about 4,000 students estimated and for their faculty members and staffs. The Library Management System (LMS) is a program developed especially for school libraries that can replace the manual transaction on St. Joseph College library. In this system the library management becomes more efficient and easier to handle basic operations involving keeping of records regarding to students or barrowers, check the books normally, keep records on lending and returning of books, and generation of reports. We follow the standard system for cataloging and classifying the books for the database of the library and also the capability of this system that stores some of the basic information of the borrower as the librarian requires. The system will offer the librarian not to do much of the usual routine but will only need to verify the borrower’s information by entering the ID number in the input screen, search for the book then it can easily process the book borrowing transaction.

The system was developed through the use of Microsoft Access 2003 accompanied by Visual Basic 6.0 that would run on a Windows Operating Systen, which mainly focuses on basic operations in a library like adding new member, new books, and updating new information, searching books and members and facility to borrow and return books.

1.2. Purpose
* Develop an application to automate the existing manual system implemented on the school library of St. Joseph College. * Develop a computerized system in recording transactions such as lending of books and returning of books. * Search to be computerized for faster searching where the result contains the information of the book and the borrower. * Design and implement a library database based on a standard library classification system. * Develop a computerized way of keeping and filling of all the books information in the library. * Interfaces with a relational database which stores information about the library users (students, faculty, and staff), including whether they have any library items (book) checked out.
