HIV illness signifies a continuum of infection that starts with a concise severe retroviral disease that normally changes to a long-lasting and pathologically dormant infection. If treatment is not provided right away this disease in the end develops to immunodeficiency disease identified as AIDS. If left untreated the period connecting the HIV Illness and the progression of AIDS fluctuates, alternating from a couple months to several years with a projected average period of roughly 11 years (CDC, 2011). Research displays that the viruses are taking an increasing toll on girls and women in the United States. The statistics showed women with AIDS rise 8% to 27% from 1985 to 2005 and these figures are even larger worldwide…

Teenagers in the 1950's were a lot different from the teenagers today. It was a beginning of a transformation into what they are today. The influence of teenagers on America's economy has changed greatly, Teenagers have gone from not being able to speak their mind to freely expressing almost anything they feel. It seems large companies are now only focusing on teens, whereas before they had all but ignored them. Their advertising is directed toward teens in order to get their business right from the start of their life. Teenagers' roles in America is different now than it was in the 1950's.…
The proposed prevention program will address discrimination projected at youth’s who identify with being gay or lesbian in their communities. When discrimination occurs in the community, it produces stress, physical and psychological issues. Lewis, Delega, Clarke, & Kuang (2006) article addressed how discrimination of one’s sexual identity is stigmatization toward their social status. Discrimination of gay or lesbian youth can also produce substance use problems, suicidal acts, violent victimization along with risky sexual behaviors that put them at risk for HIV infection, and significant rates of school dropout (Keuroghlian, Shtasel, & Bassuk, 2014).…

Since the emergence of HIV in the nineteen-eighties, significant progress has been made in the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases (STD’s). Despite increased public awareness and education, HIV continues to be a significant public health concern, especially in urban minority youth of racial/ethnic persuasion. While the United States has shown an overall decrease in the number of newly diagnose cases of HIV, community based clinics continue to report a high prevalence of STD’s in urban minority youth, especially African Males.…
In this research paper we will understand what exactly HIV/AIDs is, see different studies about perceived stigma and discrimination among health care providers, and get a view of how people with HIV/AIDS feel about the treatment they receive. Our country has come a long way to erase discrimination, inequality, and unethical treatment, but we still have much further way to go. The first step is knowing and understanding what the problem or concern is. Then we must knock down those walls of unjust treatment, and finally come together to make the change for equality.…
The United States has the highest rates of sexually transmitted diseases and teen pregnancy of any developed country. Each year, unprotected sex results in almost four million teenagers contracting an STD. The HIV/AIDS epidemic is also a serious health concern for young people. Of the 40,000 new HIV infections in the US every year, about 20,000 occur in people under the age of 25, unprotected sex being to blame. (1) The National Abortion Rights Advocacy League says, “By denying teens the full range of information regarding human sexuality, abstinence-only education fails to provide young people with the information they need to protect their health and well-being.” (2) Surveys done by the Kaiser Family Foundation found that “students who have sex education know more and feel better prepared to handle different situations and decisions than those who have not.” (3) If the abstinence-only approach continues, it is expected have serious consequences by denying young people access to the information they need to protect themselves. These…
Adults have not always understood teenagers and the adolescent psyche. Film and hip-hop star Will Smith articulated this in a song from 1998: "Parents just don't understand!" As the 1990’s drew to a close, the media would have the public believe that teenagers were more different from the rest of society than ever before. Dobbs (2011) unequivocally states that culture has a huge effect on the shaping of adolescents. In terms of music, both gangsta rap artists such as Eminem and DMX and heavy rock groups such as Limp Biskit and Rage Against the Machine were incredibly popular with adolescents.…
Sexual risk behaviors place adolescents at risk for HIV infection, other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), and unintended pregnancy among U.S. school surveyed in 2011 from the Center of Diseases Control (CDC,2011). An estimated 8,300 young people aged 13–24 years in the 40 states reporting to CDC had HIV infection in 2009.Nearly half of the 19 million new STDs ( Sexually Transmitted Diseases) each year are among young people aged 15–24 years. More than 400,000 teen girls aged 15–19 years gave birth in 2009(CDC, 2009)…
According to Collins, Alagiri, & Summers (2002), nearly four million youth will be infected with a sexually transmitted infection (STI) and there are approximately 10,000 new cases of HIV in individuals ages 22 and under each year (p.11). The numbers clearly show that some young Americans have had sex outside of the context of marriage and have done it unsafely or used protection incorrectly. It is a public health and safety concern to make sure that young Americans are not only educated about STI’s and HIV but that they are also taught how to properly protect themselves if they do engage in sexual activity.…
