Technology
Technology is a detrimental influence in today’s society. We are dependent on technology on a day-to-day basis, 24/7. This generation relies on technology for variation of things ranging from research to social networking. I think this issue is a growing problem that must be solved.
Is this healthy for society? There are definitely advantages that accompany this issue for examples cars, this technology upgrade helped man-kind in many ways however, what people don’t realise is its effects to global warming.
It is very easy to think that progress in technology over the years, are what is making us lazy. Basically every aspect of our lives can be carried out from the comfort of our armchairs. We don't even need to go shopping anymore; we can order almost anything over the Internet. Why go through the trouble of tiring yourself every morning brushing your teeth? Just use an electric toothbrush. Too tired to read your children a story at bedtime? There is a toy that will do that for you too.
“Our society has become inactive and as a result diseases which were unknown 200 years ago have now become a commonplace” quoted Osama Saleem. I’m not saying that technology is all bad and we shouldn’t use it. Ofcource it has improved the way we live our lives. The point is that it effects our society. It reduces people’s ability to do simple everyday tasks making us lazier. A college student offered the reasons for laziness by saying, “we were raised this way; everything has always been at our fingertips. People are so used to everything being given to them that when we have to get something, we don’t want to.”
According to paddy hintz, technology is steadily taking over our lives, with 70 per cent of survey respondents admitting they spend at least 3 hours at home every day in front of some kind of screen. Technology is contrary to nature because of the steel that is being mined from the earth and the metals that are dug from the ground. Technology should not be taken completely but limited to the ones who abuse it. People who are in the corporate world should be the ones with legal access to the technology due to their nature of work. Our world has become dependent on technology to an unnatural level; therefore we should limit access to technology and use what we have.…

In the article In Defense of Technology wrote by the author Andrew O’Hagan believes the opposite. That technology has actually made a huge improvement in our lives. He argues that life would be much difficult without its use. We depend on technology at many times because it does many beneficial things for us and not even mentioning time saving. It benefits us in great ways like collecting information, socializing and much more, but we mostly we use it to save time. Tech has never been harmful to any human at any point in time O’Hagan quotes, “Technology is not doing what the sci-fi writers warned it might; it’s not turning us into digits or people that hate community, instead of the opposite.” It is helping our communities in ways like recycling, entertainment, safety and much more. When an individual can sit in their house relaxed and putting in an order on the internet that’s going to arrive at their house the next day, compared to the old days it’s a miracle how it improved this much. Killing loneliness and provincialism is something you can do…

People are still indecisive about whether or not the normalized utilization of technology in their lives is a positive or negative commodity. Consequently, the easy access to things people once had to work for leads to an inevitable laziness that ensues with the internet at their fingertips. Unnecessary frivolities of the human mind, as well as the weakened ambition to acquire knowledge. Ray Bradbury explicitly stated in his short story, August 2026: There Will Come Soft Rains (1950), that technology would be humankind’s downfall. Nevertheless, he is objectively incorrect in his assumption, as technological advancements have improved living conditions for people around the world.…

Anyone living today knows the effects technology has had on society today, not to mention how it’s changed our generation entirely. Our generation can hardly remember a time when technology didn’t exist. It’s become a part of our lifestyle, and isn’t going anywhere soon. “The evolution of technology has reached a point where pretty much anything is available at the touch of a button. Shopping, learning, working and entertainment can all be accessed from the comfort of our own homes, on a train or sat in a cafe,” (The Guardian).…

“We do not ride the railroad; it rides on us,” Henry David Thoreau once stated in a caveat that, unfortunately, the majority of the population has failed to heed. Thoreau’s “railroad” represents modern technology and he believes that people indulge themselves in technology so greatly to the point that it essentially dictates their lives and actions. Similarly, in “Burned Out and Bored” Ronald Dahl reflects upon how the increased use of technology, among many other factors, has caused people to become overly dependent and stimulated that one can argue that, in a way, technology is actually setting us back rather than moving us forward.…

In this generation, technology and society go hand and hand. Technology and human life cannot be separated in the perspective of various people. Society has grown to have a co-dependence on technology. As stated by Fareed ZakAria in his article “How to Restore the American dream”, “technology is not only affecting society, but its creating a better reality. Everything is able to be achieved through ease” (Zakaria 460). In a broader view, we depend on technology for everything. Each individual in the world today uses this new entity in their daily lives. The use has become too great, that most of the time it’s viewed as a habit. The demand for technology keeps on increasing everyday as we use technology to travel, to communicate, to learn, and to handling business but most importantly, to live in peace and comfort. In the article, “Technology & Society: A Canadian Perspective”, the authors said the following about technology. “Technology and Society, we are told exist in a dynamic reciprocal relationship; they act on, and react to, one another” (Goyder and Aant). Without technology society is able to…

Technology is the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society and the environment. Modern inventions have made people lazy because they make things easier. In a BBC News article, Dr. Richard Weiler and Dr. Emmanuel Stamakis argue that technology in the form of energy saving devices like remote controls, has led humanity to an inactive lifestyle which poses risks to people’s health. Dr. Stamakis said, “Sedentary living is the most prevalent disease, silent killer, and greatest health threat facing developed countries.” Technology inventions have also reduced humans’ physical activity, making them lazy. Technology governs the lives of people especially children (Wise, “Does technology…”).…

More and more people use todays technology because it is convenient, however no one notices lack of activity among those people. No need to go pick up your newspaper in the bushes at 6am., no need to actually go to the store and by video games because you can just download them. All of the things mentioned make the technology users lazy. People need to be active in order to be healthy. Walking to the store, riding a bike instead of a car, vising a post office instead of sending an e-mail, all these things may or may not be more convenient, but they are a better alternative because it involves doing things physically. Being active means just a little more then the click of the mouse. Everyone loves the Internet. Suddenly everything just becomes so fast and easy. But easy does not necessarily mean better.…
