Life is unexpected experience, so full of surprises that nobody knows what will happen the very next moment, especially when you meet a person who has the ability to change your life in complete way. Most of us have met a teacher during our lifetime in school that made a difference and touched our lives in some way to make it better and to open our eyes for success. I remember when the first day of high school started. I was very nervous and stressed, scared to the point that I didn’t want to be at the school. I had six classes that I had to attend that day. At the end of the afternoon, I walked in my last class and it was Social Studies. I usually don’t like this subject but the teacher started to change the way I thought about social studies. Her name was Mrs. Jennifer Smith she impressed me the way she was confident, and she told us about her story from high school to college and the success that she gained over the years of studying also the fears that she had. The bell rang, and the class is over. I stayed after class to talk to her about how I feel and how stressed I was about school. She was very nice and she welcomed me. She said “I’m here for you anytime “. I introduced myself to her , and I told her how lonely I felt being in school and that I had no one to talk to which make me feel really awkward, plus that wasn’t everything I was afraid of. I was worried about my classes too because they seemed a little hard. We talked for about an hour. She was a very good listener. She gave me a lot of advice that I needed at that time, and she told me to come to her whenever I feel like I need someone to talk to. I came back home really happy and confident. Everything I felt earlier had disappeared. My homework was perfectly done, and I was excited to start my next day of high school and meet Mrs. Jennifer again. Years of high school was about to be over. Mrs. Jennifer

As I walked into the Montgomery, Alabama bus station, there were people swarming all around me. The air was hot and humid because it was mid-July, and in Alabama the summers can be very uncomfortable! I could smell the coffee cart brewing its morning batches of coffee and the cookies and scones that would be served throughout the day. As I was debating about buying an iced coffee and a muffin, I saw her. She was walking toward me with a steady gait and her chin held high. Her coffee colored skin glistened from sweat, and her black hair was pulled back into a severe bun probably to make her feel cooler. As she got closer, I stood with my hand out ready to shake her hand.…

She presented me a bunch of supplies that the foundation gave me for college. I was so surprised when I saw a full of car of items such as a laptop computer, toiletries, and other necessary things for college that I did not think to bring. I felt so grateful to have a person to take their time to pick out every little thing for me, especially since we both don’t like shopping. I didn’t expect so much and was in total shock. I was glad to have her there on such a nerve wracking day. She definitely expressed more excitement than I did. I was so nervous, full of anxiety, and didn’t even want to be there. The thought of being a college student scared me. I felt the excitement she gave off, which helped me relieve the stress I had on that day. That was only one of the many experiences I had with…

Before meeting Mrs. Nguyen for the first time, my final year in middle school was a major decay compared to my previous years. I was struggling emotionally and mentally, feeling like at times I was going to burst into tears and constantly calling myself a failure. My grades suffered tremendously as well, barely passing with D’s and C’s and saying my parents were disappointed was an understatement. 8th grade was definitely one of my worst time periods in my life. I met Mrs. Nguyen for the first time when she came over to my middle school to talk about high school…

As the air blew I tried to stay as calm as I could as this was my first time taking a course at Merritt community college. Nervously I opened the classroom door, the room was not as big as I expected it to be, the chairs were all aligned perfectly straight looking at the board. To my surprise the class was decorated with Hispanic history, which brought me a sense of confidence and belonging. As I took my seat, I didn’t feel nervous anymore and I felt like I was a college student and not a high school student. That day I became a first generation college student ready to take US History.…

The good thing was that it wasn’t just me who tried to have a conversation, they asked me questions all the time and we got really close from that day. Today they are my two best friends at school. It took me a little while to become not alienated at school, but I am so glad I came to The Northwood School. Bunch of really cool friends from all around the world, and it’s going to be a continuous experience that I don't think I will get anywhere…

My teacher ran after me and asked me if I was okay and if I wanted her to talk to someone for me. I looked at her and replied assertively that I didn’t need help, but I wanted to move seats since I sat right next to her. She moved me next to someone who I never really talked to, she was a new girl in 8th grade and I was only in 7th. She was smiling and asked me how my day was and if I was alright and needed anything. She was very kind and cared a lot about how I was. The entire time we were not singing we were talking about our lives. We became good friends. Sadly, she did not have my lunch. I ended up searching for someone I knew at lunch instead of sitting at my old table. I saw an old friend from elementary school and asked her if I could sit with her, she said yes and we began to catch up on old times. We rekindled our friendship and I grew happy…

It was a beautiful summer day at the beginning of my senior year. Students were anxious to meet their teachers and begin the last year of their high school career. There were those excited to graduate that knew exactly what they wanted to do with their life. Then there were those like me who had no idea what college they would be attending the following year. I knew I wanted to go to college, but I had no idea which one I wanted to attend or what my major would be. After I arrived that morning, I walked into the crowded hallway of my 4A public school on my way to my first and hardest class, pre-calculus AP. I was one of the last ones to enter the classroom and had no other choice but to sit next to my ex-best friend. It was already a bad day. Once the bell rang, Mr. Rogers, an older teacher with gray hair and big circular glasses, stood in front of the classroom and began teaching our first lesson. Within five minutes of the lesson, I was already lost. Once he turned around to see if anyone had questions, I was the first one to raise my hand.…

Over the next few days I gave myself pep talks regularly to calm my nerves about attending a new school with a population six times that of my old high school. When the first day of school finally rolled around I sort of felt happy. I was looking forward to a new start and an opportunity to make new friends, take different classes and learn more about my new environment. When I got onto the bus that morning I sat quietly as the rest of the bus was filled with the chatter of friends reuniting from their long exciting…

My mother was determined that all her children graduate high school so we often moved to various counties in the St. Louis area because she knew a high-quality education was based on zip code. In my junior year I was in the sixth high school that my siblings and I attended. This school was unlike the others. Although it is hard to believe, we were surrounded by middle and upper class families that looked like us. I walked into the corridor of this brand-new school and the brightness made me feel alive. The architecture of this school resembled a shopping mall filled with vast resources for students. My obsession with science and mathematics took hold. I immersed myself in this new community, taking part in various clubs, learning,…

In the classroom, Samantha was already getting dirty looks, but I just told her to ignore it, that it’ll probably blow over in a week because she was hanging out with me, you know just being associated with me, makes you a ghost, she was fine with that, we went to our periods, we switched our schedules around so we’d be in the same classes, luckily the lady in the front desk switched them right when Samantha and I went to the office after the presentation made by our homeroom teacher. We quickly went through first and second period which was exploratories, luckily no drama in there, then we reached Algebra, ooh, so much…

Over the course of my years of schooling I have had many teachers. I’ve had some of the best such as my fifth grade teacher, Mr. Moore, who taught me how to learn math, my eighth grade science teacher, Mrs. Turner, who taught me to have fun in school, but still be serious, my tenth grade chemistry teacher, Mrs. Huggins, who made class hard also made it enjoyable at the same time. The best teacher I have ever had thought taught me one of the most important things in life, how to write. She may not have been the nicest lady as she gave me my first detention in ten years of school. (To this day it was still my only detention) Her class was the second hardest class I ever had in my four years of high school; the only thing harder was AP psychology,…

Everyone has that one teacher that they admired so much or made an enormous difference in their life. My teacher would have to be my high school orchestra teacher; his name is mr----. He helped me become a much better musician. Whenever I was struggling with a piece of music, he would take his time to help me in that section. With all his help, I became such a good player that I was placed as first chair for two years in a row! Of course, being first chair and all, you have to be a good leader to lead the section. At first, it was something that I struggled with, but Mr. Carpenter helped me do that as well by telling me how to handle many different situations.…
