Talent Show Rough Draft
Talent Show Stars
It was April 15, 2012 and my school had just posted that they would be having talent show auditions on May 1st and 3rd. I loved watching the talent show but was always afraid of trying out. My friend Cianna, Henrietta, and I loved stepping in gym. We all knew they we would never have the guts to try out for the talent show because we were afraid of being rejected.
The following week I did the unthinkable I told Henrietta and cianna “Guys I think we should audition for the talent show. So what if they reject us at least we know we tried.” They both look at me like I was the craziest person on the world. Then Henrietta and Cianna responded with a very low “Yes” and I was so happy. So every day we all practiced as hard as possible.

I wasn’t the greatest singer in the world, but I still had confidence; confidence in that I can do better and learn. Ms. Janke helped build that confidence by being my own personal voice teacher twice a week after school and I saw much improvement. I would have never considered singing, especially to a crowd of people, but this all changed when I met Kate. She was my choral instructor for three years while attending school. I saw much improvement in my voice range and tone. I improved so much that I got up the courage and sang the national anthem at one of our high school’s football games. When it was all said and done, people were looking at me and applauding. Ms. Janke once told me that I can do anything if I just worked hard. Because of my National Anthem performance, she was right. To this day I sing for people, and when I help people in their musical struggles I pass down her message to work hard, have confidence, and to not give…

Filled with nervous excitement, my ten-year-old-self ran to the bulletin board eager to discover whether or not he was accepted to the choir. As he read the list of who were chosen, his heart sank; he was not on the list. “Maybe I should give up singing ” he thought; “Maybe my voice is not good enough”. However, he refused to despair; he was determined to achieve his goals despite this failure.…

Instead of having a terrible time, it was the best time I had all summer. Little did I know, this would be an event I couldn’t wait to return to the next summer. I signed up for keyboard and on the first day, everyone played a song to determine what band they would be in. I immediately thought I was the worst one there. At the end of the day, they asked if anyone would be interested in singing backup and I didn’t even think about doing it. I thought it would be terrible.…

It was my sophomore year, and I auditioned for the play Our Town. Our Town is a play I will never forget. I do not know how, and I do not know why, but somehow God used this play to reveal Himself once more to me. He gave to me a cast that treated me as family and a plot that told of greater moments than this life. Our Town depicted what most consider to be unimportant, everyday activities and revealed their intrinsic value with each line and stage direction. In rehearsal we discussed multiple times the significance of this play and how it applies to our lives. By the time performances rounded the corner, my heart was near to bursting. A feeling of belonging and the need to appreciate every moment overwhelmed me. Most importantly, I felt a tug at the back of my mind, a quote from the Stage Manager, “We all know something is…

In seventh grade I wanted to tryout for volleyball. I was very nervous because I had never played it before. I was super happy when I found out all my friends and I made the team. We had a lot of practices in December to get ready for games in January. I was really nervous for our first game. Our first game was supposed to be right after christmas break ended, but we had a snow day so it was cancelled. I wished it hadn’t been so I could just get it over with, but i was gonna have to wait. We were scheduled for another game later that week. I woke up with a phone ringing and an answering machine saying that school was cancelled due to boiler issues. I sat in bed thinking I had once again gotten lucky and we had no game, I was wrong. We were…

The very first practice together was the most intimidating experience I have ever had. A group of freshman, including myself, were waiting in the Chorus room and then it was time. We walked into the double doors and the whole West Haven High School band was standing up and clapping. I thought to myself, "Why are they clapping?" After everyone was seated, our director, Mr. Crabtree said, "This is your family for the next four years." It wasn't until my senior year in high school that I found out how much that really meant.…

It was December 10, 2014 that we got the phone call from a band asking me if I was interested in playing with there band at a live concert, first I though I was dreaming and then I realized I was'nt, I could not believe that I had the opportunity to play in a band at a concert at age 12. I had five days to make up my mind of weather or not to play on stage with this bad. I started practicing the songs I was going to perform and they were pretty easy for me but I just had this gut feeling like I was not going to do well. The next day I woke up it was coming so fast, and all I was focused on at the time was practice, practice, practice. This would be a once in a lifetime chance, a decision that would decide my future as a musician, it would decide respect, how people…
