In some computing situations, you might need to create a WiFi hotspot quickly so other wireless devices can use an Internet connection. Today we take a look at Connectify which easily turns your Windows 7 machine into an instant WiFi hotspot.
You might be at a location where there is only one Ethernet connection available (hotel room, office or meeting room etc.) and you need to share the Internet connection with other people or devices. Connectify is a free utility which is light on system resources and makes it easy for you to set up your Windows 7 machine as a secure WiFi hotspot.
Note: Connectify only works with Windows 7 Home and above, Starter is not supported.
Connectify
Installation is quick and easy, and once complete, you can access Connectify from the icon in the Taskbar.

Wireless networks have become very popular in many households this is in part because it makes things convenient for the user. They physically do not have to sit in front of a computer to get access to it. I have a wireless network in my home and it is at times very useful. I have the freedom to move around and access the internet from anywhere in my home. I do not have to sit in front of my computer and use the computer which would be wired. With that one advantage will also come a disadvantage one that comes to mind is video streaming which would be a little stronger coming from a wired network. New security has been configured also and would make it hard to access as it would have to be in a certain operating distance. In doing my research I came across a variety of hotspots. These hotspots are businesses that will offer wireless internet access to its customers. Some of these businesses will offer this access free while you are in their establishment others will offer a paid service fee for the privilege to access the internet. In my research I found that one establishment The FedEx Office requires a fee of $29.99 a month to use it wireless networks. Two others that I researched the local train station and a Dunkin Donuts offers its customers free wireless access. All three also provide a user agreement and in that agreement it states that the establishment is not responsible for the user content and is not liable for what downloads that the user will…

Wi-Fi is one of the wireless signal types, it uses IEEE 802.11 specifications to make a wireless LAN or local-area network that we can secure, like a home or office network, or even a public network like a coffee shop. Mostly a Wi-Fi network is a way wired connections thru a subscription to the internet leads to a wireless router sending and receiving data from and to customer’s devices, not only they connect to the internet but also to other users directly. The Wi-Fi range is usually wide so most homes or small businesses can communicate together, but for larger homes or even college campuses for example, must implement extenders in strategic places to extend the wireless signal all over the needed place. Wi-Fi standard evolved quickly, with newer versions of it making the signal more efficient & faster than previous versions. Right now most devices use 802.11a/b/g or n, but is also backwards compatible in order to make sure that an older device or laptop computer can also connect to new Wi-Fi routers. But to get the optimal connection speeds, your router & devices must use the latest 802.11 technology, so once you upgrade your computer or get a USB wireless n antenna, consider also getting a…

Now with Windows 7 you can share your internet connection as an access point with the the drivers that came with Windows 7, Windows also installs the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter To configure it use the Command Prompt in Administrator elevated: netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=itgeekdiary key=typepassword This configures a Wireless Lan network with SSID “itgeekdiary” and protected with the key “typepassword” Enable Internet sharing on your internet connected network card, in my case that is the Wireless Network Connection modem card. Select the virtual Wifi as home networking connection, Open the virtual miniport wifi adapter properties and uncheck all except IPv4 And at the command prompt type: netsh wlan start hostednetwork That’s it !!! if you want to disable, at the command prompt: netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=disallow ssid=itgeekdiary key=typepassword These devices are known to be compatible: Atheros AR5005GS (as in the TPLink TL-WN651G) Atheros AR5007EG with 8.0.0.238 firmware Broadcom 4310-series (in many Dell laptops) D-link AirPlus G DWL-G510 Wireless PCI Adapter (driver version 3.0.1.0) Intel 5100/5300 (with latest drivers from Intel’s site, version 13.0.0.107, 64bit systems only) Ralink RT2870 (in many 802.11n USB dongles) Realtek RTL8187SE (with the drivers that came with Windows 7) Realtek RTL8192u with 1370(Beta) These older devices are known to be incompatible Atheros AR9285 (likely others too) Belkin Wireless G MIMO devices (as of version 3.1.2.0) Broadcom 4320-series (in many Dell laptops) D-Link AirPlus G DWL-G122 Gigabyte GA-WPKG 802.11g Intel 5100/5300 on 32 bit systems Intel 3945/4965,2200BG (most Intel cards, unfortunately) Mac Book Builtin Broadcom devices Realtek RTL8187 (like in older 802.11bg USB dongles) Zydas ZD1211 (also in 802.11bg…
