There are six levels of qualifications, ranging from Level 2 to Level 6. Level 2 Introductory Certificate in Purchasing and SupplyThe Level 2 Introductory in Purchasing and Supply is a stand-alone qualification that covers the basic principles of purchasing and supply, including terminology and practical aspects of the role. It has four elements: The role and scope of purchasing

To study for this Certificate, you must register with a CIPS approved study centre and become a Student Member of CIPS.  At the end of the course, your knowledge will be assessed in a one hour test which you may take online. On completion of this qualification, you will be able to:

Use the language and terminology of a professional purchaser with confidence Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the purchasing process Explain the contribution of purchasing to achieving organisational objectives Interpret a range of information found in typical purchasing situations Accept greater responsibility for sourcing decisions within timescales and organisational frameworks Make credible assessments of the tactical options available within a defined purchasing process Level 3 Certificate in Purchasing and SupplyThe Level 3 Certificate in Purchasing and Supply requires you to complete five compulsory units. The purchasing in action unit draws together the knowledge and understanding achieved in the other four units and demonstrates how these units combine and integrate in a working environment. Assessment for each unit is by examination, with the exception of purchasing in action, where UK learners may choose to do an exam or a work-based assessment. This Level 3 Certificate will take a total of about 150 hours study time in workshops, tutorials and practicals, in addition to personal reading and self-study.
