Summary: Stuck On An Escalator
Thesis: The main idea of all these texts is that sometimes there are walls in life but you have to just get over them.

A theme of all of the texts was that some of the characters were being punished for doing it wrong. Such as, when Calvin from Calvin at School was talking about how he wants a job that can support him in this “...tough, global economy” But, his teacher stated that, “What you get out of school depends on what you put into it.” Because of this Calvin has to make do with the opportunities that he has got. Similarly, the caged bird was also punished for being so angry. For instance, he referred to his cage as rage that was just keeping him from moving on with his life. Because of this he had to stay in the cage that was in between him, and the freedom that he desired so dearly. Finally, the characters that were also punished were the people in the video Stuck on an Escalator. Because the people that got stuck didn’t try to fix their own problems they had to sit there all night,

For example, a character that was rewarded was the mother from Mother to Son. The mother was rewarded with the opportunity to raise a son with all of the wisdom that she got throughout life. The mother gained this insight because she never gave up on life and she kept on . Additionally, the last person that was rewarded was the caged bird from The Caged Bird. the caged bird was rewarded with his powerful voice, “The caged bird sings with a fearful trill.” The quote shows that the bid has a very influential voice from all of its singing. Because even though the bid always dreams of freedom he never gets to experience this but he always is very hopeful that he can someday. Finally, the mouse from Mouse Survives Trap was also rewarded with the cheese that he got, and the knowledge of the trap. The mouse was rewarded because when he got hit by the trap he kept lifting and never giving

The first major theme is that people should never stop moving forward. In other words, this means that no matter what life throws at someone, people need to find the strength to pick them selves up. “These thoughts were going through my mind as I continued to run, not feeling my numb foot, not even realizing that I was still running, that I still owned a body that galloped down the road among thousands of others.”…

There are various social problems presented in this book. These problems happed and interacted in the family, the community and the society. They also impacted those social systems. The social problems usually involved with a particular area or group of people, and finally effect real life. In the book The Glass Castle, the Walls’ family confronted several social problems. Some of them are generated within their family, and some of problems are generated outside their family, came from the environment they lived in and made them suffered from the problems.…

One Weakness presented in the book is concerning times when there is not even a slight reference to the thesis, for extended amounts of time, in order to connect the subjec to the point the author’s trying to make. It seemed a lot like a textbook and had a form that certainly placed too much responsibility upon the shoulders of the reader to ensure the advancement of the book’s premise. The author did not identify with his audience…

As I said before that the others wanted to give a message throughout the entire book to explain to people that we are all one of a kind and never try to be like someone else because there is only one of them and one of you. No one can do better than the next person because we all have something different to offer and we only improve ourselves more when we are just ourselves. Basically no one is like the other so why try to be better at what someone does better when all they’re doing is being their own being. Fear is also mentioned in this book and they tackle this throughout the book as well saying that fear is seen as a negative feature of people, but should really be used as an “engine starter.” That is mostly why this book inspires me not just entertains me.…

I choose this passage because the author was emphasizing on the gory scene at the beginning of the exposition when Reuben Land who has asthma witnesses the shooting of two neighborhood bullies, Tommy Basca and Israel Finch, by his own brother. I also choose this passage because it was in an important chapter at the beginning of the book and very devastating. This was significant to the novel and the theme. One of the themes that were important throughout the entire novel was portrayed in this chapter and really helps state it in this passage. The theme that was portrayed was-have faith in the Lord and don’t be discouraged. I believe that this theme fits throughout the whole novel but was really stated in this passage while having a deeper meaning as well. The words and actions in this passage help sum up the entire chapter, being the most depressing chapter. Even though Reuben had felt the situation in the locker room was the one that changed their lives, the shooting of Finch and Basco will do more than just change their lives. It will send them on a journey whose return will assure that life will never be the same. It makes me feel or think that you should always stay strong with your relationship with God and have faith in him. All things happen for reasons and you may not know now but will realize later on in life.…

A theme within this novel is the loss of innocence. The existence of civilization allows man to remain innocent, therefore when the characters lost their innocence, the civilization was gone or corrupt. One example of the loss of innocence would be when Jack was unable to stab the pig during the hunt. At that moment, he lost his innocence which enabled him to kill without a recollection of civilization. Another example of the loss of innocence was when Roger was throwing stones and rocks at the other children below him. Roger was unable to actually hit them purposely because he still had his innocence, but this moment was the beginning of his inability of understanding human nature.…

During a revolution both sides have to be resilient and hard work is key to overcoming the opposition. This statement is portrayed in many different texts, like in Animal Farm when the animals kick Jones out of the farm and they’re preparing for the harvest, the animals have to work hard and be resilient “the implements were designed for human beings and not for animals” (Orwell 19). The implements they use symbolize the “reigns”, or the control of the farm, they don’t have any prior experience to run the farm which requires them to adapt to survive, which shows resiliency and hard work. This theme is implied in many different works, such as “The Rebellion of the Magical Rabbits” by Ariel Dorfman, in the story, after the monkey has to use the erasing fluid many times due to the fact that rabbits keep on sneaking into the pictures, his paws get injured. “His paws peeling from the harsh erasing fluid” (Dorfman 119). The peeling paws represent the hardships the people that are being overthrown face, but still he continues trying to please, which shows resilience and hard work. This theme is shown in other pieces like “The Raid” by John Steinback. When when Dick and Root get beat up for fighting for their cause “‘they bust my arm and a couple of ribs’” (Steinbeck 13), they don't regret anything and are ready to continue to fight, this is obviously resilience and hard work. Another work that shows this is “The Little Red Guard” by Anchee Min, when she is ordered to denounce her teacher, she was scared and at the verge of tears, but she got the words out “You are a wolf in sheep's clothing” (Min 6) this is resilience because she had to bounce from the shock of denouncing her teacher and deliver. During a revolution, the side with more resilience and hard work usually wins.…
