Summary: International Criminal Justice And International Criminology
I received two insufficient grades for International Criminal Justice and International Criminology course in the 2014 Spring Semester at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. My cumulative grade point average fell below the required minimum. Placed on academic probation and financial aid suspension, I experienced discrepancies among my grades after an extended convalescent period emerged. On Saturday, August 23, 2014, my aunt, the sister of my mother: Marie Roise Moise nicknamed Yolande, and my first cousin, the child of my aunt: Myriam Lebrun and first cousins-once removed, the children of my first cousin: Kayla Jeanty, Marcel Jeanty, Marcus Jeanty, died a horrific death in a car accident within a Honda Accord on Exit 38 Babylon.

Most sociological theories presume that once a deviant or criminal act has been committed then the response will be uniform, however this is not the case as people respond differently to deviance or rule breaking. In the early 1960’s gay men were more likely to be stigmatised than now. John Kitsuse interviewed 75 heterosexual students to obtain their responses to (presumed) sexual advances from gay men. The point of this was to show that there was no agreed definition of what constituted a homosexual advance it was open to negotiation.…

In 2013 I decided to change my life around; I had gotten a job as a dishwasher/ prep cook and even went back to school for my grade 11 at Sir Robert Borden High School. At the time I thought I was just getting my life back on track but really I was slowly going back downhill towards the bad friends and drugs. (Note: I haven’t done any other drugs besides marijuana which I’m proud of) During the first semester I was searched exactly every day for 23 days in the first month of September because of my history in Holy Trinity, which was selling marijuana. The best part about it was that I didn’t bring that to school anymore and had been leaving it at home for my own personal use. I still yet had another problem on my hands; I would not attend my classes. I had missed almost every class in the first semester except for my first two weeks there.…

Carceral tours allow the public to walk through the halls of prison to obtain an understanding of incarceration. Carceral tours had numerous uses for architects, inspectors and officials throughout the nineteenth century, but recently the tours are used as an observational research opportunity for social science students who are interested in learning about the carceral institutions.i The articles, “Problematizing Carceral Tours,” by Justin Piche and Kevin Walby and “In Praise of the Carceral Tour: Learning from the Grendon Experience,” by David Wilson, Roy Spina and Joyce E. Canaan, had valid documentation for their arguments on opposing and supporting the effectiveness of carceral tours for research purposes.…

Their were two events that occured this past semester that caused a magnitude of emotional stress which consequently effected my academic progress at Georgia State. The first event occured January 5th, 2013. I had a termination for my pregnancy. I was previously aware of my pregnancy Decemeber 2012 during the end of my Fall semester. Taking in consideration that I live in low income household having a child during that point of my life was not a wise choice to make if I wanted to continue attending school and working part time. After my operation I developed symptoms of post partum depression that substantially impaired my emotional well being. Before my actions of this event I did not not consider how much this would affect my life and emotional development. It was very hard for me to cope with the choice I made of having an abortion. It began to be very…

I, Kourtney Brooks, am writing to you in hopes that the decision of me being ineligible for financial aid due to not maintaining a cumulative GPA of 2.0 can be appealed due to extenuating circumstances. Entering into the spring semester, due to my performance in the Fall I knew there was a lot of work to be done. In the Fall, after being out of college for a few years I had to get acclimated to working and going to school full time, not to mention online schooling, which is something I hadn’t experienced before, but due to having to work to take care of myself I made the decision to try it because I know in order to truly excel in life I have to further my education. Nonetheless, I went into the spring semester a stronger student due to the mistakes in the semester that instilled the strength and…

In May of 2007 I enrolled in ITT Technical Institute with every intention on graduating with an AAS in Computer Drafting and Design. I successfully completed my first semester with a 4.0GPA and perfect attendance. About 2 to 3 weeks into my second semester my mother became very ill unto death (September 16th, 2007). The demands from my mother’s illness took a major toll on me emotionally and I was unable to adequately focus on my academics. My mother was a single parent and I was an only child and because I lived with her and had no other means of residence I felt reluctant to stop attending school and start working.…

In junior year, I was fortunate enough to have an open elective course of Criminal Justice at my school. In class, I acquire a mass of information from my instructor who has retired from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, ATF. Although it was unfortunate that there weren’t enough students who signed up Criminal Justice II for the following year. I had to adjust my core classes in order to continue my criminal justice studies while meeting the requirement to receive an advance diploma and an IB Career Certificate. When I had to make a hard choice to drop orchestra, an elective music class that I have been taking since 5th grade. In order to have enough time to be part of the Criminal Justice II at Marshall High School Academy. The…
