Freedom of advertising could lay your hands and you should understand what that truly means. Sue Jozui in her excerpt states that using celebrities in advertising is misleading and tricks the viewers into purchasing the product being sold. The author supports her argument by first saying companies using this business strategy, make consumer want to buy products because they transfer approval of the famous person onto the appliance. She continues by explaining how manipulative that is to the audience. Jozi's purpose is to make it know that using celebrities in commercials is an unfair tactic. Someone may think is this way marketing is unfair but try imagining yourself as a business owner. A new business owner trying to get their young business off the ground and a celebrity happens to actually enjoy your product and wants to be in a commercial. If this type of marketing is banned, this could hurt the business trying to get a boost for their products. Not all commercials have famous personalities emptily selling a product and not all advertiser are trying deceive the consumers. Someone should be allowed the right to use advertising as they like because they should freedom to sell their product where it is deceptive or not. ‘Advertisements using celebrities are manipulative’ but isn't all advertising kind of manipulative? For example if a medicine commercial claiming to fix heartburn will list off the benefits to the viewer nice and clearly. However when the side effects are listed there can be many problematic symptoms or life threatening ones that are rattled off so quickly, you don’t get to hear them all. This tactic misleads the viewer to hear all the good things about the medicine but likes to quickly skim over the flaws. Why is this any different from using actors and actresses in a commercial? Advertising companies should be allowed to advertise the appliance with celebrities because marketing is already misleading on its own. Whenever an animal rescue commercial comes on, it usually has pictures forlorn dogs and plays heart wrenching music in order for you to feel something for the animals. Infomercials like to butter you up with the promises that their appliance, that you've probably never heard of before, are tens times better than the one of already have. And if that wasn’t enough, that they offer another one free of charge and then double the amount appliances for nothing. In both case of these commercials are you doing perform for manipulation to get the audience to buy their products. Whether it be playing on your heartstrings or bribing you, it is still manipulation either of which do not require celebrity to do so. ‘Commercials with celebrities are manipulating.’ No, people are. It could really could have been anyone in that commercial. It was the way the commercial made you feel something or promises it made you. This a great reason of why the consumer should research or put some thought into something before they buy. If the heartburn medication the screen that sounds like this brand could help, research should be done if it's the right medication for its consumer.
