As a member of First Robotics I have gained many skills in the fields of manufacturing and machining. I've been involved for four years now where I've contributed my skills to the success of the team and in doing so, prepared myself for future jobs in the engineering field.
Specific experiences that I have from First Robotics include: working with power tools, maintaining a safe work environment, working in a workshop, working as a team, troubleshooting, working in a professional environment, time management and overcoming obstacles.

How have your experiences prepared you to be a participant in the Student Development Tech Prep program?

Tech Prep organizers claim to have adopted training methods to bring about a realistic career success for students. For example, the one way to bring more real-world elements into classrooms is to focus on teachers training. Teachers in Indian River County's Tech Prep program spent a day last year "shadowing" professionals at area businesses. The business advisory council for Palm Beach County's Tech Prep program worked to provide teachers with three-week internships at local firms to train them according to needs and supplies.…

Before beginning the assessment, I asked the child some basic questions so that I could assess her prior knowledge. I asked her if she knew; what capacity and weight were, how do you measure liquid, what was larger 2 cm or 2 feet and if she could name some objects that came in gallon, pint, quart and cup. I also reviewed any other vocabulary words that were in the lesson.…

Academic Statement of Purpose: Biomedical Engineering Ph.D. I strive to bring meaningful ideas to life. Engineering was a natural choice for me as I entered college, because it allowed me to pursue my desire to discover, design, and build. As a Freshman, I was a student who wanted to learn everything about everything, and so Biomedical Engineering was immediately appealing. This major allowed me to obtain intellectual breadth outside of traditional engineering courses, while still keeping me grounded in my passion to create. Within Biomedical Engineering, I have found my passion in electronics, specifically with respect to neural engineering and device design.…

Growing up my Father always loved to have my sister and I participate in home improvement projects. While we were less than joyous to help, we always ended up learning something whether it was a new skill or technique to develop our work ethic, we were always hands-on. My father’s favorite thing to say at the completion of a successful project was, and probably still is, “the job isn’t done until everything is put away”.…

A current policy issue that is plaguing our educational system is the emphasis put on student assessments. Teachers are at odds in their classrooms on whether to teach the necessities that students will need to be productive in our society, to simply teach what will be tested on state and federally mandated assessments, or both. Teachers are forced to find a balance within their instructions due to the time restraints that stand in their way. When teachers are able to find this balance and present all the concepts that are included in assessment, plus all other concepts, the results from the assessments can be very beneficial to their classrooms.…

In the 21st century we have the privilege of living in one of the most exciting times for the technology that is arising.. Mundane jobs that were hard or too dangerous on the human body are now being handed over to worker drones or bots. No more will you have to put up with the complaining husband dragging in after being bent over car after car in the garage for a living. Many car manufacturers in Tokyo Japan have been using robotic arms to weld and build car parts. Towards the end of 1999 the amount of robotic arms in manufacturing companies was close to 743,000 according to World Robotics 2000, produced by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe in cooperation with the International Federation of Robotics Human workers for the plant welcome the help of the robotic arms and do not see it as a threat to their jobs. No one should contemplate heavy and repetitive lifting by hands these days when robots can improve both working conditions and productivity," says Mike Wilson, IFR chairman. "There are many industries that should move toward automation, particularly in view of the ever more stringent legislation in most industrialized countries regarding manual handling in the workplace."…
