Stolen Property Case Study
INTRODUCTION:

This case involved the suspect being in possession a crucifix necklace which resembled stolen property from a robbery in violation of PC 496(a)-Receiving Stolen Property.

EVIDENCE:

• (1) Gold in color crucifix with white in color stones across the face. (1) Gold in color necklace chain.

INVESTIGATION:

On 10-07-16 at approximately 1232 hours, Officer Harrell #3441 and I were dispatched to 425 S. Fair Oaks Avenue Unit A (Ortho Source Medical) regarding a suspicious circumstances investigation. Dispatch advised a male Black had chased several female workers into the above location. The male then ran into the business and accused the workers of stealing his property. Fair Oaks Avenue, Pasadena. We contacted Store Manager Jagus Stefana. I asked Stefana if the store employees commonly give store items away to the public. She advised store employees are not allowed to give store items away or they will be terminated. She also advised that transients commonly steal items from the store without paying for them. I showed Stefana the necklace which was found in Saxton’s possessed. Stefana did not recognize the necklace as store property.

At approximately 1510 hours, Officer Harrell and I responded to the Diamono Jewelry store located at 642 E. Colorado Boulevard, Pasadena (626-449-0020). We met with Store Manager Karnig Avakian to determine to the necklace value. Avakian estimated the necklace value to be approximately $20.00. Avakian conducted a test on the gold necklace by using a magnet. The magnet immediately attached itself to the necklace. Avakian told me that meant the necklace was metal and not gold.

I telephoned Sergeant Kirby and advised him of the above information. Sergeant Kirby requested Saxton be issued a citation for misdemeanor PC 496(a)-Receiving Stolen Property pending further investigation by the Pasadena Police Department Detective Bureau.

I returned to the Pasadena City Jail and issued Saxton a citation for PC 496(a)-Receiving Stolen Property. Saxton is scheduled to appear at the Pasadena City Jail on 11-22-16 at 0830 hours (Citation
