Stevie Nicks:
An Inspirational Artist

Music Appreciation
October 16th, 2010
Stevie Nicks: An Inspirational Artist Stephanie Lynn Nicks was born in Phoenix, Arizona on May 26th, 1948. Growing up, she had a strong interest in music. Stevie Nicks was influenced by her grandfather, a struggling country western singer who taught her how to sing. On her sixteenth birthday, she received a guitar and began writing her own songs. Nicks formed her first band The Changing Times while attending high school. The Changing Times was inspired by the harmonies of The Mamas and The Papas (Stevie Nicks Biography). Another band Nicks joined in high school was the Fritz Raybyne Memorial Band. Fritz was given the opportunity to open for celebrity musician,

The tone color of the instruments sounds dull and the music is relatively boring. This is only my personal opinion, and over the course of Stevie Nicks’ extraordinary career, I found this piece of work to be simply ordinary. Although Stevie Nicks’ career began with a commercial failure, her successes as a musical artist are what she is known for. Stevie Nicks has influenced a wide variety and record number of singers and songwriters including Kelly Clarkson, Colbie Caillat, Madonna, the Dixie Chicks, and Vanessa Carlton. She has collaborated with many well-known artists including Tom Petty, and mentored others, such as Sheryl Crow (Dunn). Her 2001 solo album, Trouble in Shangri-La, included fellow musicians Macy Gray, Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crow, and Dixie Chick Natalie …show more content…
Although Nicks is a worldwide celebrity, people can relate to her. I would also consider her a role model because of her ability to rise above hard times and not give up on her dreams.

Janis Joplin once said "I always wanted to be an artist, whatever that was, like other chicks want to be stewardesses. I read. I painted. I thought." The 60's were a time that stuck with the American people, and it doesn’t seem to be leaving. It was a time for expression and success in new ways. But not everyone's success came as easy. Janis Joplin was a free spirited person, who didn’t believe in judgement but she believed in second chances. Whether that applied to her success or others. Her career finally rose above expectations in the late 1960's, as a blues vocalist. She lived a singled-minded life to keep her goals in front of her, even with her life threatening battles in the way. The purpose of this paper is to explain how a new female…

To some there is a great deal of mystery that revolves around her, but I beg to differ. The only one would have to do is listen to her extensive catalogue of songs, that majority of them penned by her, which explains in great detail the certain stages of her life and the life of those closest to her. If her genre of music isn’t your cup of tea, then reading her lyrics which is sometimes written in prose, will take you on this never ending journey of high, and lows. On a journey that’s narrated not by one of the world’s most famous and icon rock stars, but on a journey…
