Speech Outline

Specific Purpose Statement: To Persuade my audience not to speed.

Introduction
I. When speeding you will eventually meet a cop or the grave. II. Speeding is a cause of many car accidents and I am here today to tell you the fines and result statistics of speeding. III. I have done extensive amounts of research and talked to cops about speeding therefore I am qualified to give this speech. IV. Everyone has either seen a car accident, been in a car accident, or has lost someone due to a car accident that started with speeding. V. I am going to cover the fines that come with speeding and statistics about speeding.

Signpost: First, thing that comes to someone’s mind about speeding is cops catching you and giving you a ticket.

I. To all of us college students paying for a speeding ticket is no pocket change. A. Regular Speeding citations are pricey. (Palm Beach County) 1. Palm Beach County has one of highest ticket prices in Florida with the lowest being $131. 2. In regular speeding zones there is a 5mph above the limit bypass where you can go 5 over without getting a citation. B. School or construction zone citations are more. (Palm Beach County) 1. with the lowest ticket price at $156 and the highest at $606. 2. In these zones there is no bypass. If you are going 1mph over the speed limit you can get a ticket.

Transition/signpost: Getting a ticket is not worth it especially when you look at how much time you save.

II. Time is one of the biggest reasons people speed.
A. Speeding really doesn’t save much time at all. (Foreman). 1. When traveling 10 miles, going 80mph in a 60mph you save 2 minutes and 30 seconds. 2. distancespeed∙60=time(in minutes)
B. “…Mr. Officer I was doing it because I am late...” (Foreman). 1. Being late is the most used excuse for speeding.
