Your MAP-IT project hits home to me, I am embarrassed to say that I was a pregnant smoker with my first child. Had the doctor or nurse sat down with me and explained the risks involved, I would have never continued to smoke during that pregnancy. I truly didn’t know any better and when I asked the doctor if my smoking would affect my child, he told me trying to quit smoking could cause more stress on the baby than actually smoking. That was the education I received as a pregnant woman in the early nineties with my first child. I hope over the years this education has expanded within physician offices. Thank You for Smoking is a both fierce and sophisticated satire written by Jason Reitman. The moral of the film is on the matter of cigarettes and cancer and how it is associated with the responsibility of choice. Nick Naylor (Aaron Eckhart) leads as a lobbyist for Big Tobacco who will fight to protect America’s right to smoke -although it may kill him and others. Nick does not take sides in the matter, but rather spins the situation around in which makes all others wrong. Although the realistic acting and satirical style make the movie intriguing to watch, the plot of the movie is irrational.…

This is accomplished by reducing exposure to a particular disease or altering behaviors such as encouraging smoking cessation. In the article entitled,” Primary and secondary tobacco prevention in youth”, the author explains that childhood is a precarious time for children to experiment with tobacco. The nursing profession has made a major impact on primary prevention of tobacco use by providing education in schools, communities, families, and acute patient settings. However there is still much more education which needs to occur. Nurses should rise to the critical task of continuing to provide comprehensive education on primary tobacco prevention for our youth (Tingen, Andrews, & Stevenson,…

People always talk about the innocent lives of human beings and animals being killed/diseased/injured while everybody seems blinded towards fruits, vegetables, and plants when the same things happen to them! The lives of these harmless organisms are never considered while we chow down on salads and apples! The lives of the innocent must be protected!|The solution is simple, banning the consumption and destruction of all vegetables, fruits, and plants. This means that some forms of medicine will be eliminated due to some of the chemicals being extracted from plants but, rest assured that this sacrifice will not go out in vein due to plant-life being saved! Whenever a human, animal, or insect is caught even plucking an apple off of its own home, they will be punished by death, pesticide, or insecticide respectively. There will be monthly searches in everyone’s house in order to ensure that the plants are getting the necessary water, sunlight, and nutrition that they need. If you fail to keep your plants alive, death will be the ultimate punishment. I know that a lot of needed nutrition comes from these precious life forms so; I have created a monopoly on legal, synthetic fruits, vegetables, and even plants! |1.…

In a perfect world, eliminating the demand for illegal substances would unilaterally resolve the drug problem eventually, although in the short run we would still have the challenge of releasing the addicted from the grips of their habits. Absent demand, the impetus for the drug trade -- profit -- would disappear. So, too, would the social and health costs of drug abuse. In reality, there will always be a demand for drugs. Some portion of every population will continue to use illegal drugs to escape reality, experience pleasure, follow peer pressure, chase a misguided sense of adventure, or rebel against authority, among other self-destructive reasons. To counter these proclivities, prevention activities must forestall the use of illegal drugs,…

Everybody knows that the real problem with illegal drugs is that they cost too much, and they are so difficult to get that drug addicts need to commit crimes in order to feed their habits. If only people could go down to the nearest Seven-Eleven and buy a cocaine-powdered donut, or drive up to the window at McDonald's and order a dank 10-piece marijuana nugget meal. Then people wouldn’t need to knock down an old lady and grab her purse, or commit a home invasion robbery for some extra cheese. People would not be as shady and messed up to others if they could get what they want and need easier (cheaper). There would be less crime and no drug dealers.…
