The main similarities in Perrualt's version of Sleeping Beauty and Disney's Maleficent are: there are strange and wonderful creatures, there are also humans in both versions, and both stories included love at some point in the stories.
First of all, the way both stories start off is a bit similar yet completely different. In the beginning of 'Sleeping Beauty in the Wood' the story starts off with the princess. The movie is still keeping the gender stereotype alive and thriving even in people’s homes. In today’s America, where women are in the vanguard of dignified treatment, respect and equality for women, the gender role in fairy tales especially Cinderella is still the same. As Silima Nanda points out, “Ambitious women in fairy tales are always portrayed as evil from within, ugly and scheming, wielding over other women and men” (Portrayal of Women 246-250). While there has been efforts to rewrite fairy tale like Sleeping Beauty for the screen, Cinderella remains the passive girl with an evil stepfamily. The stepmother is typecast as wicked, cannibalistic and self-conceited because she wants a better life for…

Did you know that in the Disney version movie of “Sleeping Beauty”, Princess Aurora is there for only sixteen to twenty minutes. Most of the movie was more about how prince Phillip fought a dragon in a lava pit, more than about the princess Aurora who the story was really about. Disney made it seem like Aurora slept gracefully while prince Philip was out fighting evil witches and dragons. A girl should be taught to take up arms on their own and not to wait for some guy in a white horse to save her; girls should not be portrayed as a damsel in distress, but be taught that girls are strong and can be their own hero, that they can do anything if they…

The differences between the fairy tales is that the pesky goat her prised garden eaten up the gost and had a bad ending. The Queen of crows had a good ending because she found that handsome guy she always wanted and they both got carried up to the sky and she became the Queen of the Crows. How do these fairy tales reflect the culture? A girl doesn’t want her prised garden to be eaten up by a pesky goat and they don’t want to live along with a cat and dog.…

This can be seen as a push for feminism in the movie because it doesn’t focus on her being because she’s a girl. Also it changes how things are normally executed in fairytales. Some examples include Tiana rescuing Naveen, the princess also being changed into an animal, Prince Naveen being a playboy and they changing into a hard worker, and Mama Odie who says to think about your wishes and if that’s really what you want. These are probably introduced into the movie because Disney is looking to find a prompt that will make people watch and buy the movie. Viewers want to have a role model that will be a good example for small children and make them change themselves for the…

In Perrault’s version, Cinderella was forbidden to attend the royal ball, yet in Disney’s allowed her, but only after completing tasks that her evil stepmother thought would be impossible. Concerning the royal ball, Perrault’s version of the event was over two-night period, while Disney’s version was only one night. I believe Disney minimized this to ignore Perrault’s more realistic and self-sufficient character that disobeyed not once, but twice in order to seek her own happiness. In contrast, Disney chose to enhance Cinderella’s reaction with a more love-stricken bliss as she daydreams while humming to the song that she and Prince Charming sang together “So this is love…” (Geronimi, Luske, & Jackson, 1950). During the slipper scene of Disney’s Cinderella, the evil stepmother attempted to destroy Cinderella’s destiny by locking her in her room and going so far as to trip the Grand Duke causing him to drop the glass slipper. Disney created suspense and made viewers think that Cinderella may not live “happily ever after”, after…

One would believe that a movie based on a storybook would have the same plot. In comparing and contrasting the movie Tangled to the short story “Rapunzel”, one can find many differences and very few similarities. Tangled was developed by Disney and has grossed 590 million dollars in the first year; however, “Rapunzel” is only a folk tale handed down through the years until it was finally written down in the 1800s. This is only the beginning of the differences. Looking closely at the plots, one can definitely see there is a difference in the two.…

Snow White, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty have different plots, but they have similarities like the hero. “ Joseph Campbell in the Hero with a Thousand Faces, “a hero is any male or female who leaves the world of his or her everyday life to undergo a journey to a special world where challenges and fears are overcome in order to secure a quest, which is then shared with other members of the hero’s community. ”(Jung, Campbell, and Frye) In “Snow White” the seven dwarfs are the heroes to Snow White. “When the dwarfs returned home that evening, they found Snow White lying on the floor as if dead— but they quickly noticed that she was laced up too tight and cut the lace...…

Shrek and Fiona had recently gotten married, they just got back from their honeymoon when people come from Far Far Away with a message for Fiona. Now this is where the story starts off on the right path for a fairy tale. Fiona’s parents are the King and Queen of the Kingdome of Far Far Away. They set out on another adventure to go visit Fiona’s parents. Shrek didn’t want to be there and Fiona’s father didn’t want his daughter to be married to an ogre. Now there is a conflict with some characters. The Fairy Godmother shows up one night at the Kingdome to talk with the king, she tells him that the deal they made long ago is off, if Fiona doesn’t marry her son Prince Charming. The Fairy Godmother and the king worked out a deal that he will get anything his heart desires only if Fiona marries Prince Charming. This is where the one lesson is taught about being selfish. So the King pays a talking cat, named Puss, to kill Shrek so Prince Charming can step in and marry her. This is the climax of the story where everything ties together. So in order for Shrek to be with Fiona he has to get back to the Kingdome to kiss Fiona once again. The end of the movie is once again a happily ever after ending. The true end to any fairy tale. The second film was filled with fantasy and magic, when Shrek and Fiona go to Far Far Away to see her parents, they pull up in a giant onion carriage, and pull up to a red carpet like some kind of Hollywood…
