Should Cell Phones Be Allowed In Piedmont High School?
Cell Phones In The Classroom Should cell phones be allowed in Piedmont High School? Although there should be regulations to this allowance, I believe they should be allowed because cell phones have many uses that may prove to be helpful to students. For example, my laptop crashed recently while I was in school. The only way I could access my assignments and reminders was through my cell phone. Some may argue that cell phones are only a distraction. A lot of students at Piedmont High School play on their phones during lessons. This causes the teacher to stop class to tell the student to put their phone away. At the same time, it is the students fault if they miss important information due to them using their cell phone. Allowing cell phones in class will tech responsibility by giving them a choice of when to use it. …show more content…
According to this article, many students do not even believe that texting their friend’s answers is cheating. They simply consider it helping one another (Miners). While one third of students admit to cheating, what about the other two thirds? Why should they be punished for being responsible with their phones? If we regulate the use of phones, cheating can be mostly prevented. During tests, the teacher can walk around the room to ensure the students are not using their phones to text answers, or look up information to

In the other hand, others also disagree with allowing cell phones to be used during class. Many students might take advantage of this and not pay attention to the teacher but be texting others or creating a distraction. The noise or the vibration of the phone can annoy others that try to pay attention. Also, when someone gets his or her phone taken away, it becomes a big distraction to everyone and wastes class time. Cell phones in class can also lead to cheating.…

In a 2014 article titled “7 reasons why students should be allowed to use cell phones in school” it states, “Teachers could combat cheating by making students use “airplane mode” or any mode that will not allow them to send/receive any messages or use the internet while there is a test.” “Airplane mode” would stop any incoming calls or texts, it would even stop the internet from working. Students would not be able to look up answers or give answers to other students. If there is a test the students could leave their phones in the front of the classroom until everyone is done…

The second reason that students shouldn't be allowed to use cell phones in school for education is for the sake of the teachers, a teacher should not have to fight for the attention of his or her students due to technology. After twenty years of teaching history and ESL for Lowell High School, Miriam Morgenstern is quitting her job for multiple reasons. One of Morgenstern’s reasons for quitting is her students and their cell phones, she explains her frustration, “The texting, tweeting, and snapchatting during class time are ‘an incredible distraction, and makes it much more difficult to teach,’ she said. ‘It’s pretty hard to compete with a very funny YouTube video.’” It is unacceptable that students are using their phones while the teacher…

There is more than one side to the debate about cell phone availability during school. One claim is that students should be allowed to have their phones on them and use their cell phones during appropriate times. In the article, the authors provide details about how there are numerous reasons why cell phones should be allowed during school. Students should be allowed access to cell phones, because if they are responsible enough to be going off to college in a year or so, they should be responsible enough to have a cell phone on them and use it wisely (George and Cook). Another reason why cell phones should be allowed in school is because otherwise it can create a divide between the students and the teachers. Students are so invested in their phones, so if a teacher…

I believe that students should be allowed to have their phones available to them during school hours. The administrators of our school have shunned the use of cell phones at all time during school hours. We can’t even have them within reach. If they’re not in our lockers or cars then you run the risk of it being confiscated. I believe that if administrators allow phone use in schools then grades will become much better. Some schools in Texas, including my old school, allowed phones to be used regulary. Students had much better grades than in Jenks where phone use is prohibited.…

They say that to be able to use phone students need to learn how to use them appropriately. One of the main reasons for this rule is cheating on tests. Staff worries that if students have access to their phones during tests they will use them to their advantage, this is also why some teachers do not allow students to listen to music during a test. Students may also take advantage of these situations and go on social media, text friends, and use their phone inappropriately. Students can also get distracted if they are on their phones during a lesson. They could text a friend and if they reply back the phone could make a noise or it could vibrate and not only distract the student who's phone it is, but the whole class. Teachers say that if students want to be able to use their phones more they need to learn how to use their phones appropriately and responsibly. There can be lots of problems with phones at school but if students use them responsibly there will be little to no problems at all.…

First, teachers find cell phone extremely distracting and disrespectful. Honestly, teachers do not oppose texting in class because they are mean, or don’t want students to socialize, but rather for students benefit. In fact, they are trying to prepare us for our future and the lives we will go on to live after high school. But with cell phones, we are depriving ourselves of education! With our cell phones going off in class, to our classmates getting caught playing Angry Birds, cell phones are awfully disturbing to have in class. Teachers only want to prepare…

I strongly agree that cell phones should be allowed on school grounds. I have two reasons to support my opinion. First having cell phones can be a helpful learning tool to teachers. Max Gold supported my opinion. He stated “By using texting as a positive tool instead of a means of distraction educators can now have student’s text in the answers that the students have questions on. Also Greenberg High School stated “The Students who have a smart phone can use various applications that are designed to assist in learning and designed just for students. Many of these smart phones have programs that are similar to what is found in a laptop or desktop computer. Being able to quickly look up facts on the internet is possible on many phones. If a student needs assistance with class work and does not have access to a computer, a smart phone can be used in a snap. Also most private schools allow cell phones. In private schools the prevailing view is that cell phones are here to stay. They are an essential line of communication between frantically busy parents and their children. As a result, most private schools allow cell phones on their premises with the understanding that phones must be turned off during class and only used under certain conditions and in specified places. Most schools have very specific guidelines written into their handbooks and acceptable use policy manuals. All students agree to abide by those rules both while on the school premises and also while under the school's jurisdiction when off campus. second opinion is parents can keep in contact with their children. Maya Cohen supported this reason by stating that “Cell phones create a convenience that was previously unavailable. With cell phones, you…

Introduction- Imagine you're in Mrs.Melville's classroom and you hear *beeepppppp**beeeeepppp* and everyone looks around the class to see who it is that's, all it takes and then everyone is distracted. Sometimes kids get jealous and may even steal other classmates phones. Clearly, cell phones can have a negative impact on students and their ability to learn during school hours. They should in fact be banned during class time so the student can learn properly. Cell phones are obviously a distraction and it takes the purpose of communicating away. They can be nice at times but they should definitely not be allowed during school hours. Students need to focus on their school work and sports instead of how many people liked their Instagram…

Cell Phones shouldn't be aloud in schools because of all the bullying and harassment that goes on in the classroom. They could use their cellular devices for cheating on worksheets, quizzes, and tests. Students can take pictures of other students without their permission and post them on social media accounts like Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, etc. But Cell Phones should be aloud in school because they can take their homework home and be able to find their assignments easier. They should also be allowed in schools because it is easier for the students to follow along in reading and watching videos.…
